I'm old enough to remember when polio put my friends into iron lungs. We dutifully lined up at school to get vaccinated. We eradicated the disease. We protected the common good and saved lives. What RFK Jr. is doing to public health in America is a disgrace.
I will reiterate: Christians in the West evangelize in public for the same reason men catcall. Neither is trying to persuade you; both are reminding you that the public sphere belongs to them and you exist in it at their sufferance.
Excellent thread in response to Emily Wilson’s review of The Odyssey. If anything, as it pertains to the film, I think this shows how difficult it is to portray historical “truth” when it comes to the ancient world. So why would that be the aim?

I can report to the Bluesky universe that Saskatoon is under siege by mosquitoes. Their demands are not yet known, but the citizens will agree to any terms for the hope of respite.
I absolutely love Bluesky arguing about Nolan’s Odyssey. I love that people are taking big swings from their respective (non-racist) corners. As someone who thinks the film is successful on its own merits, I’m going to go watch it again with Emily Wilson’s criticisms in mind.
