It won’t stop at math. Machines getting better at thinking through abstract problems than we are is going to be an emotional crisis for lots of people. I wish we were engaging that directly instead of having ridiculous shadow-debates about GPUs’ inherent thirst for water.
Very worried about this sort of thing hitting more broadly:
As someone who's sponsored this event for a few years (and can't any longer), I have to say if you're at all interested in access to some of the most gifted thinkers at the intersection of (real-not-bullshit) AI and Games, this is the event you should be putting your money into

I’m proud to be part of this work, led by my PhD student @smearle.bsky.social and supervised by @risi.bsky.social. The question we ask is whether modern VLMs can exhibit the same kind of open-ended search and invention as humans when placed in the same mechanism

If you're a European, Canadian, or Australian policymaker looking to make the case for #digitalsovereignty, the United States has just made it for you. The time for debate is over; cloud and AI sovereignty are essential if future generations are to avoid digital colonialism.

The biggest objection is going to be people using AI to do bad shit. Yeah. People have always don’t bad shit. People use earlier models to do bad shit. People do bad shit without AI. Maybe more people do more bad shit with AI. If this is something we are unhappy about then we need to collectively…

It has felt to me for a while that the field of AI has become very interested with producing results and less interested in the journey. Science has become commoditized. The incentives of both academia and industry research has made it easy to care about the product more than the process.
I've found it instructive watching is happening in the physical sciences with LLM-accelerated research. This passage from "The Last Astronomers" in Science resonated with me www.science.org/content/arti... (here is the arXiv article referenced: arxiv.org/abs/2602.10181)

It just today occurred to me gavagai ends in ai. Surely someone had already bought gavag.ai for some kind of elaborate joke or mysterious startup? No? So I did. Now, the question is, what should I do with it? (The current page is just some claudeslop I cooked up with absurdist prompting)
gavagai
A page about meaning, indeterminacy, and the word a stranger shouts when a rabbit runs by.

Can't deny that I like being compared to Demis Hassabis :) www.marketwatch.com/story/hardco...
Hardcore gamers nurtured Nvidia and the AI boom. Now they feel betrayed by Big Tech.
“An ongoing culture war”: AI is driving up the cost of key gaming components as Big Tech leaves the gaming industry, once an inseparable ally, in the dust.

No one talks about why data centers take so much water LLMs run on shower thoughts, and the data centers must keep a stream of steamy water spraying gpus 24/7 Without the showers, LLMs just have regular thoughts like everyone else currently not in the shower, and would have no sellable value

I think it's great that computer scientists with lacking interpersonal skills are no longer bullied and laughed at. However, I didn't want the awkward nerds to rule the world. For the record, I don't want the jocks and bullies to rule the world either. I want real grown-ups to rule the world.
