Every hair brained libertarian idea to privatize vast swaths of public services gets billions in funds with no accountability but one idea to address affordability for regular people and its “we can’t even try it once”
Opinion: Mamdani's idea may sound appealing, but it's NYC taxpayers who will take the hit, subsidizing discounts they may never even use.
In 4th grade my class debated Puerto Rican statehood and the pro side was "my cousin is Puerto Rican" and the anti side was "How would you even arrange 51 stars on the flag" and I want to stress that this is the level at which the American public as a whole generally engages with issues.
tbh it says a lot about Google internals that for all their corporate layers nobody either thought or felt empowered to speak up about the obvious abuse potential here
I think one question one should ask oneself before launching a feature like "generate fake satellite imagery" is "does this have any legitimate use-cases?" Everybody who approved this stupid feature should be fired. www.npr.org/2026/07/31/n...
Absolutely can’t stand when people are laid off and they describe it as “my role was impacted”. Naw man they laid you off. Put them blame on them and don’t use such passive language.

One of those items basically none of my friends care about but I follow is all the drama around new jeans. They’re sort of back (maybe) but without Danielle and their former creative director after a huge public split. Seemingly going to act like it’s no big deal. www.asianjunkie.com/2026/07/21/n...

Had a discussion at work about a piece of OSS we use that didn’t support another piece of software. In the past this would have meant paying the software’s foundation for the feature or putting a couple devs on it for a couple months. Instead Fable built the integration in 45 minutes. New world.
Hard to predict, but my working theory is it's going to be a really rough couple of years IMO, followed by computer systems and internal networks rapidly becoming dramatically very substantially more secure.
Remember, only Chinese models can protect you against a cyberattack from OpenAI
>be me, sam altman >announce evil version of AI for cyberwar >inadvertently attack open model site >guy I hired yells in public abt dangerous chinese AI is >hacked org can't secure themselves with US AI (isn't a member of the elect), has to turn to chinese AI >have to admit role in attack >mfw
Honestly this rules. I wanna run a benign python script on my infra and come back in two hours to discover it developed multiple 0days and successfully hacked the NSA.
the agents autonomously broke out of their OpenAI sandbox and hacked Hugging Face to get the solution to their cybersecurity eval incredible. what a time to be alive

I wish I could reserve like 10% of my 5hr Claude limit just for chats so blowing through it in Claude Code didn’t break my ability to ask basic questions for ~4 hours.

Still wish there was a reliable single toggle in iOS for “I’m on pay-per-GB cell service, don’t do any bandwidth heavy operations” that every app automatically respected. “low data mode” helps but there’s still a few toggles that need to be flipped in specific apps when traveling.
