We are all in the gutter, but some of us are screaming directly into the gutter he/him

the big (okay, one of many big) issues with “actually music out loud on trains is fine and you’re an ableist killjoy” as an argument is that… this isn’t true? for the simple reason that *only one person can play music out loud before nobody is meaningfully listening to music anymore*

it never really stops - @mconcagh.bsky.social explaining to me during the last year that Guadalcanal impacted North Africa in a far more than just “holistic” way (IJN redeployments freed up Indian Ocean RN resources to directly impact the supply situation for Montgomery) blew my BA-in-History mind

the thing that WWII dads mostly don't appreciate is the scale of shit that was going on outside of the commonly known theaters if you're a knowledgeable WWII dad you probably very high level appreciate the eastern front, but how bout tying up 20% of IJA manpower for the entire war

Years ago my friend @tomblack.uk wrote a short story basically sending the Ten Plagues of Egypt to Nazi Germany, and there's a line that goes something like "maybe God had sent a messenger, and he had been shot dead in the streets of Warsaw or Amsterdam." I think about that line a lot now days.

Just finished watching The Odyssey. Great movie. Now my mind is spinning over “Zeus’s law” and the way Nolan brings together Homeric hospitality with ideas about the stranger, the neighbor, and the divine showing up where we might not expect. (1/3) #theodyssey

Thing about British Steel being nationalised is there is no argument around nationalising it that doesn't also apply to the universities except "steel is boy coded :) and teaching is girl coded :("

I have a few: 1) The night sky. Light pollution has fundamentally changed our experience of the stars. 2) Actual quiet - no distant traffic or electrical lines. 3) Music and the spoken word. We’ve been raised in literate and now audiovisual cultures; that’s a recent innovation. 4) Memory.

what is the reverse historical dorito? the thing from the past that would blow our minds in a positive way

Between Chuck throwing his brother in the dungeon, Bob from Chicago excommunicating schismatics, and drunk Pete’s Christian fundamentalist military getting bogged down in an ill-advised adventure in the Middle East, medieval fans are eating good.
