Got a couple of pins at the Disney Store. Had to find the most obscure Disney thing in the store to have merch and GMD is pretty high up there.
All I will say is, once I found out that there was a lot of drama behind-the-scenes and changeover from S1 to S2 (and even *more* changeover from S3)…you can tell.

At this point, the only fandom space that has been created and continues to serve actual fandom is AO3 and there are nutjobs trying to get rid of THAT.

I think it’s a shame that the “100 Best TV Shows of the 21st Century” only has one animated entry too, but can we PLEASE suggest animated shows from other countries or, at least, shows intended for adults? I love ATLA but it would not be on there.
Maybe more people need to experience the agony of trying to enjoy a show where the writers actively hate you and begrudge your presence in their fanbase. Forces you to get creative and create what you want to see via fanfic & fanart.
Canon has always been more like ‘guidelines’ for fandom, anyway.

Seth Rogen being Launchpad makes me laugh - if only because I remember the temper tantrums certain people had in 2020 about how Rogen would RUIN Launchpad by making him a stoner and an abusive straight man. DT17 fandom was a special kind of hell.

There’s a generation that was raised by social media, with no parental oversight, and they learned that playing the eternal victim and blaming others for their personal problems is how they can get what they want. In a way, it’s similar to incels and the ‘red pill’ mindset.
A smut writer I liked has stopped posting bc someone commented that their fic was “pedophilic” as the ship involving two 40 year old men had one calling the other “cute.” And the person who made this comment cannot understand why what they said is so offensive.
There’s a whole generation online that thinks it’s totally acceptable to casually call people pedophiles for talking about sex at all. Maybe there should be a ban on social media for people under 18.

It’s deeply depressing to see similar ship war tactics proliferate every fandom I venture into in. It just makes me sad. Everyday, it’s some new moral crusade. But nothing gets better - and all the fun art disappears due to witch hunters who spend time bashing the ships and artists they hate.

Rest in peace, Mike McFarland. Had the pleasure of working with him and whenever we exchanged messages/interacted over the years, he was always nothing if not a kind, stand up dude. Seeing everyone’s outpouring of love for him is a testament to how good of a guy he was.
