Turns out First They Came poem in the original German lists Communists as the Nazis first targets. Most US english translations I see skip those lines entirely. Can only assume it’s because we (🇺🇸) agree with the Nazis on that. Says a lot.

Can someone please tell me if I'm overreacting here? Is an organization contacting somebody's emergency contact to ask for a favor an acceptable use of emergency contact information? This feels absolute egregious to me. I'm actually indignant. But I'm willing to be corrected if I'm overreacting.

Will never stop thinking about how as a little kid I asked my mom how many homeless people die because of the heat and she laughed at me and said "people die in the cold, not the heat!" and then I grew up and googled it and it turns out the US just... chose not to count heat deaths. Wonder why

On NJ Transit on the way home and the train just died. Just another day/reminder of how “the richest and most powerful nation in the world” cannot do mass transit. We can afford a war and build concentration camps, but not mass transit.

I once tweeted - and people fought me on it - that the US could leave 80% of the global south to starve [or drown] and most white liberals would not give a fuck unless their iphone orders were late. Anyway... luv 2 b rite about this shit. <3

I still think the best way to think of the ending of US AID is as the single worst genocide committed by any one US presidential administration. even given all the horrific things the US has done, it's not really that close. 750k dead already; expected 14 million.

people will keep saying more absurd things for views. we monetized nonsense. honestly we should have been prepared when the "Helen Keller wasn't real" disinfo campaign broke containment... interesting to note the potential gendered-ness of the lies, though. much easier to claim a woman wasn't real

I can't believe that just in my lifetime we went from the conscious Black Pride hip hop of the 90's to the "Harriet Tubman wasn't real" Tik Toks of today.
