FENS 2026: We will present our BMI, mouse neuroprosthesis and somatosensory processing work through this week, including chairing a session on circuit neuroscience in freely moving mice! Check out the schedule below 🔽🔽🔽
Sensori-motor Integration and Plasticity Lab
@touchmovelab.bsky.social
A CNRS/University Paris-Saclay group headed by Daniel Shulz at the Paris-Saclay Institute of Neuroscience. Where touch and motor control meet!
A new publication of team member Luc Estebanez in collaboration with @mdc-berlin.bsky.social James Poulet in @plosbiology.org!
▶️ In our new @plosbiology.org study with James Poulet, we show somatosensory contributions to M1 Vm in a forelimb reaching task. ▶️ Surgical removal of somatosensation impacted movement encoding, Vm regulation and its transition to active state, and more! ▶️ Learn more: doi.org/10.1371/jour...

We have opened a call for a post-doctoral researcher ! Our team @touchmovelab.bsky.social researches strategies to provide direct cortical feedback during brain-machine interface control of an upper limb prosthesis in the mouse model.
1/4 Today we introduce the first upper limb prosthesis for the mouse model, controlled by a brain-machine interface! We show that mice can control this prosthesis via a brain-machine interface to solve a rewarded task.
Our team has a new BioRxiv out, on the operant conditioning of cortical waves, led by Anton Dogadov @dogadov.bsky.social ! We looks at cortical wave conditioning, and at the interactions between peripheral inputs and cortical dynamics which shape waves that match an arbitrary conditioning rule.
1/6 We have a new/updated preprint out, led by Anton Dogadov, demonstrating operant conditioning of large cortical waves over mouse S1 thanks to a mesoscale GCamp6 brain-machine interface! www.biorxiv.org/content/10.1...
🎉 L'interdisciplinarité est à l'oeuvre dans notre institut. 🤝 Nos liens forts avec la communauté des ingénieurs du L2S @centralesupelec.bsky.social nous valent le label PRIME de @cnrs.fr !

'Rubber paw illusion': Mice can 'sense' artificial limbs, just as humans do
Scientists have introduced a new laboratory model that could help them study how artificial limbs can be better designed.

We are pleased to have this publication out in @plosbiology.org!
Our work on rubber hand embodiment in mice is out @plosbiology.org! We show that just like in humans, visuo-tactile pairing can lead mice to an embodiment-like behavior with respect to an artificial limb.

Embodiment of an artificial limb in mice
Body ownership disorders can be triggered by disease or body damage in humans. This study shows, using an automated, videography-based procedure, that mice also display quantifiable behavioral markers...

A very clear, detailed, and fair account on the (obscure?) French way to distribute positions in academia, and then manage to actually do some research! Thanks Olivier
In case this is helpful for anyone, here is a post on how to get a job in french academia : trialsanderrors.substack.com/p/getting-a-... Aimed at non-french scientists who are curious, but french ones may find it useful too.
