My kid is in a rare dual-track vocational + college prep program in high school. Teaching trades is important and good. Steering kids to trades while underfunding public education in order to reify a caste system that benefits the rich and powerful is not. Guess which one Linda McMahon is doing.

In a college sociology class in the late 1980s I was assigned a Marxist analysis of education that argued that the US education system is designed primarily to produce efficient workers for the labor market. And now Trump’s Department of Education is just tweeting it out.

Republicans love pushing vocational-only education instead of comprehensive-education because they want a healthy supply of low-cost servants and less competition for the professional and boss jobs they want their own kids to have.

I don’t pretend to know how this state senate primary is going to go, but I do get the feeling that Mike Rush is not winning Wu’s home precinct. She won 7:1 against Kraft last year in 18-10! Signs don’t vote, but the lefty Roslindale base isn’t behind an anti-choice “Blue Dog” Dem in 2026.

Mike Rush for Senate post really leaning hard into his endorsement by Michelle Wu.

This just popped up in my feed and it’s giving such “Bill Linnehan for City Council President” vibes. She really is ideologically confounding in so many ways.

Michelle Wu at a Mike Rush campaign event in a room full of people who are Republicans but run with a D next to their name because it’s Massachusetts.

This is the same tactic police departments will use as cities and towns ban Flock cameras. Cite a single crime and claim they’re handcuffed by the loss of surveillance technology, despite little evidence to show that tech would have prevented it.

The level of courage, sacrifice, and moral rectitude that the Bridges family summoned is stunning. I mention it often when talking to white parents about sending their 5yo to an integrating, global-majority school. No amount of culture shock discomfort can compare to what the Bridges family faced.

We rightfully talk about Ruby Bridges being the first Black child to integrate an all-white school in the South at 6-years-old. But we don’t talk nearly enough about Lucille Bridges, her mom ✨

Travis,
Attached, you will find the balance sheet and prequalification forms. Please fill these out and return them when completed. The prequalification is the first step in the process and will provide us with a quick glance at financing options.
Note: The prequalification is a soft pull inquiry to your credit. We will not proceed with a hard pull until we have your consent.

(Never forget that we DID have a proven policy to increase diversity at exam schools but scrapped most of it because a handful of parents got really upset.)

@bostonschools.boston.gov is excited to celebrate the second annual Exam School Initiative (ESI) Summer Program Student Showcase! The Exam School Initiative (ESI) is an equity initiative to increase diversity in our three exam schools. This summer, 200-plus students participated in ESI programming.

Because people in this country are so accustomed to excessive punishment and surveillance, they did not detect just how many immigrants were receiving ankle monitors ("Alternatives to Detention."). The $$ means ICE has an unlimited supply. www.wyso.org/news/2026-07...

It is funny that this person thinks “immigrants defended the union while native born whites sought to destroy it in the name of slavery” is an argument against immigrants being Americans. This is precisely the point, nothing about being born here makes you better bsky.app/profile/aphc...

Another datapoint for the fascist radicalisation of institutional pillars of much of the American Right

whenever someone tells you that it's simply impossible for police to be charged with misconduct or criminal charges, you can tell they're wrong because some cops do get charged regularly — when they are whistleblowers or reformers prosecutors are actually extremely eager to help drum them out!

And my heart kinda breaks listening to the beaming kid be like "this is the kind of thing that used to take YEARS" like yeah spending years getting good at art or music is the REWARD. It's rewarding to spend your time this way. You're teaching these kids that something fun is a waste of time

Trump 2 has shown that the bulk of federal, state, and local "law enforcement" don't perform any useful functions at all. If they did, it would not be so easy to re-task them to brainless gestapo work like rounding up whole neighborhoods and waiting outside public buildings.

I wrote about how immigration arrests are at all-time highs, even as ICE is trying to assume a lower public profile. How are they doing this? Look to your local police.

We all had fun with Ed’s “ride-along” meat bust in Chinatown, but he also thinks the relatively meager BPD residency requirements are too much. He wants an occupying force of guys from Canton to subdue the insurgent population of this city. The national guard is part of the same program.

Boston City Councilor Ed Flynn will move to propose measures related to waiving Boston Police Department residency requirements and allowing retired officers to take shifts as the department faces staffing challenges.
