They're using the confinement box, one of the most horrific methods of CIA torture in the post-9/11 black sites, against migrants now. This is the direct result of the lack of consequences for the architects of the torture program. Either there will be criminal penalties for this or it will expand.

Torture Techniques from CIA Black Sites Were Used at Alligator Alcatraz

Amnesty International, interviewing migrant detainees, identifies use of the confinement box. There can be no denying it is a torture prison

"Our waters are crying out for a break from the pollution, Irish people [want] clean water, but our voices are drowned out in a world of political wrangling and vested interest. [But] you can’t drink politics." Excellent piece by @elainemcgoff.bsky.social www.irishexaminer.com/opinion/comm...

Most Irish people want clean water, not a nitrates derogation

Has the Government ever asked the people of Ireland if they agree with pulling on the green jersey to convince Europe to give us another derogation?

Important point, always explain what is better. No problem because the solutions ARE out there RIGHT NOW for 95%. In construction they are biobased or deal with existing stuff from the technosphere, circular. It's all here, not just better, cost competitive in many cases even on a distorted market.

Too many campaigners talk about what’s wrong, but never explain what must change or how it could happen. Real campaigning means finding solutions: identifying causes, proposing reforms, and then doing the maths on the finances to show how they would work in practice. youtu.be/uF40KyuRp8Q?...

TIL about a memorial ceremony in Iceland in 2019 to mark the end of a glacier, changing the place name from Okjökull to Ok (jökull = glacier). Uncompromising wording on the bronze plaque: "This is to acknowledge that we know what is happening and what needs to be done. Only you know if we did it".

Bronze plaque saying "A Letter to the Future. Ok is the first Icelandic glacier to lose its status as a glacier. In the next 200 years all our glaciers are expected to follow the same path. This monument is to acknowledge that we know what is happening and what needs to be done. Only you know if we did it. August 2019. 415ppm CO2"

UPDATE: Another Chicago-area church has put up an immigration-themed Nativity scene. A church member at Urban Village Church sent this one along, where Mary, Joseph and Jesus are gone and replaced with a sign that reads: “Due to ICE activity in our community, the Holy Family is in hiding.”

In Chicago, a Nativity scene features a zip-tied baby Jesus and Roman centurions in "ICE" vests. Near Boston, Mary, Joseph, and Jesus are absent from a Nativity scene, replaced with a sign reading "ICE was here." It's all part of growing religious blowback to ICE. religionnews.com/2025/12/05/i...

Senator Kelly is correct. Plus a Public Service Announcement: KEY section of Department of Defense's Law of War Manual is 18.3.2.1. The VERY rule on the "requirement" to refuse illegal orders gives as its paradigmatic example of what is "clearly illegal: "orders to fire upon the shipwrecked."

Mark Kelly on the Trump/Hegseth boat strikes: "If orders are illegal, not only do they not have to follow them, they are legally required not to follow them."

Can confirm that Gemini 3 Pro can transcribe Césaire's handwriting like a specialist. I just fed it one of Césaire's most trash handwriting, and the only thing it missed was the name "Suzy." Damn. Even AI is all in to make Suzanne invisible. Lol. Cold.

I’m thinking that US voters being “furious about prices” when Trump’s fascist regime are attacking democracy, human rights, the environment & climate, public health, the global economy, the sovereignty of nations, a sane world order, and more, may be why the world will never trust U.S. voters again.

David Darmofal@daviddarmofal.bsky.social · 11mo ago

Americans are upset about prices & things are completely unraveling for Trump. Americans were upset about prices under Biden & his poll numbers were like Trump's are now. Americans were upset about prices when @kamalaharris.com ran & she nearly won. Says a lot about her strength as a candidate.

Across 9 million square miles at the top of the planet, climate change is writing a new chapter. “Three years ago, temperature in ground above our permafrost was minus 3 Celsius [27 degrees Fahrenheit],” This year, temperature was plus 2 degrees. www.nationalgeographic.com/environment/...

Arctic permafrost is thawing fast. That affects us all.

As the frozen ground warms much faster than expected, it’s reshaping the landscape—and releasing carbon gases that fuel global warming.
