NEW EPISODE⛵👁️🏹 Today we discuss Christopher Nolan's THE ODYSSEY and see how a myth that evolved through centuries is recontextualized for our day and age. There and Back Again ◦ Christopher Nolan's THE ODYSSEY Review

We're living in truly crazy times, and things that would not even be remotely controversial ten years ago now bring ire to certain parts of society. A while ago, the idea of Christopher Nolan filming an adaptation of THE ODYSSEY would bring universal interest, but now any perceived ""woke" decision brings multitudes of vitriol and "discourse". Today we take a look at this film on it's own merits, and see how a myth that has evolved through centuries is recontextualized for our day and age. Join us as we aura farm with Agamemnon and take a journey with Odysseus to Ithaca as we encounter war, trauma, acceptance, and forgiveness on 70mm IMAX (none of us saw it on this format). #TheOdyssey #ChristopherNolan If you like our content, please make sure to LIKE, SUBSCRIBE and SHARE! Below my review of 'Star Wars: LEGACY' by Madeleine Roux: Much like the Skywalker lightsaber, the weight of the heirloom and the legacy of Star Wars in a meta-sense, shackle the story into something that is neither intimate nor expansive enough. (1/?)

At the end of The Last Jedi, Rey asks: “how do we build a Rebellion from this?” to which Leia responds, “We have everything we need.”
Claudia Gray’s Master & Apprentice and Mike Chen’s Brotherhood work as a sort-of duology; fascinating stories about the relationship between a pupil and their teacher. Now, Madeleine Roux makes this a spiritual trilogy with her upcoming LEGACY. Since the culmination of the Skywalker Saga, stories about Rey and the Sequel Trilogy era have been few and far between, so the expectations for this book have been high.
Rey’s character has always been compelling and Leia is legendary, so an exploration of their relationship between the events of The Last Jedi and The Rise Of Skywalker was full of potential. How does Rey continue her Jedi journey after the last Jedi, Luke Skywalker, has become one with the Force? How does Leia become a Jedi mentor when she abandoned her Jedi training to dedicate herself to a life of a General in the Resistance?
Unfortunately the answers this book gives us are lackluster despite some strong writing from Madeleine. The characterizations’ of our heroines’ more often than not seem out of place considering where they were at the end of Episode VIII and the start of Episode IX.	Caught between the main plot, are the stories of Gav and Ziff, freedom fighters from Hays Minor, and Major Brilla Wostenholme of the First Order, whom they are trying to eliminate. Most of the issues in the book have to do with this plot; it never quite coalesces with Rey and Leia’s, and in a lot of ways fails to justify why they connect with each other and how they uncermoniously converge their conflict.
LEGACY seems caught between two good stories: Leia/Rey, and Gav/Ziff/Brilla. The consequence of which is that none of these threads are explored in a satisfying way that offers catharsis to anyone’s journey. The book seems plagued by Lucasfilm’s treatment of the Sequel Trilogy: an uncertainty of where to take it’s narrative and what to do with legacy characters.
The book takes it’s time with the character arcs for Rey and Leia, setting them up interestingly in an ancient temple on Tython (cool Jedi: Fallen Order/Survivor vibes), yet despite this build-up, the apotheosis doesn’t take us to anywhere we haven’t seen before. Similarly, the crescendo of the plot develops slowly yet once we reach the climax it arrives too late and is resolved too quickly.	Nevertheless, LEGACY has interesting things to say, especially when it comes to duty, honor, service, empathy, acceptance, and of course legacy; framed through a triad of sorts between Leia, Rey, and Brilla. There are wonderful moments to frame these themes and anchored by surprising character appearances.
Much like the Skywalker lightsaber, the weight of the heirloom and the legacy of Star Wars in a meta-sense, shackle the story into something that is neither intimate nor expansive enough. Connecting pieces from VIII to IX (to soften dissonance between films?), and pointing at both things past and future, the book unfortunately fails to create a compelling continuation of Rey and Leia’s mythos, despite some deeply interesting concepts that never quite come together. Despite this, I look forward to more Star Wars stories from Madeline and more adventures of Rey Skywalker.

NEW EPISODE🎙️🗣️💬 We had the privilege to participate in a roundtable interview with the creatives behind THE NINTH JEDI: Supervising Director KENJI KAMIYAMA, Director SHUNSUKE TADA, and Producer HITOSHI ITŌ. We gained wonderful insight from everybody, we hope you do as well! 📺👉 bit.ly/4bNKLox

KENJI KAMIYAMA + SHUNSUKE TADA + HITOSHI ITO • Roundtable Interview | Star Wars: THE NINTH JEDI

Star Wars: VISIONS presents -THE NINTH JEDI releases in a little over week and are extremely excited! A couple of weeks ago the trailer dropped and we discussed it at length (check that out if you haven't!). Today we're very honored to present a very special episode. We had the privilege to be able to participate in a roundtable interview, along some of our podcasting peers, with the creatives behind THE NINTH JEDI: Supervising Director KENJI KAMIYAMA, Director SHUNSUKE TADA, and Producer HITOSHI ITO. This was such a great opportunity and we gained such wonderful insight from everybody, which hopefully you do as well! The interviewees spoke in Japanese, so an interpreted was translating our questions and their answers, so hopefully my editing/dubbing skills have been good enough to convey the interview well! Extremely special thanks to Disney and Lucasfilm for the opportunity! We hope you enjoy this interview as much as we enjoyed participating in it!    We were very fortunate to share the round-table with some of our community friends, among them: @fathersongalaxy, @StarWarsExplained, @skytalkers, @talkingbay94. #StarWars #StarWarsVisions #TheNinthJedi If you like our content, please make sure to LIKE, SUBSCRIBE and SHARE! When you have written a Star War you go to London to celebrate with your editor and agent. You get to look in the book for the first time, sign a special copy for the best Star Pilot in the galaxy, and see a paperback version of ‘Rise and Fall’. All of these things are amazing.
