In general I think more writers need to let go of the fear reader may dislike their characters lol. That's impossible to avoid. As soon as your character does or is anything at all, someone will dislike them. At least let them be nuanced; then they may like them, if not as people, then as characters
Not even necessarily about characters - I feel I can also sense when an author thought "I want them to be in danger, I want there to be stakes, but I don't want the consequences to be Too dire, or else it'll cause messy story complications." Those messy complications ARE your story!
Have your characters do things that are genuinely shitty, not just "sort of shitty but you understand why they did it and they didn't know the full story and it's not that bad in the long run". Have them apologise (or don't). Make them earn their forgiveness/redemption (if they get or even want it).
I feel like I can pick up when I'm reading a story and the writer thought, "I want this character to be mean, but not TOO mean." Or "I want them to have an argument, but I don't want it to be TOO bad." Why not! Why not Too mean, Too bad, Too messy!! That's where the fun is!
More writers need to let their characters and stories be messy!! I don't necessarily mean going out of your way to introduce drama for the sake of drama. But I do think a lot of writers see the opportunity for mess, but get scared, and try to neutralise it rather than digging into it

Fandom needs interaction to thrive, if u want to keep enjoying art, fic, edits, animations, silly little hcs, and all of that gud stuff, give some of the love back that creators pour out for you, fandom shouldn't be /content/ to mindlessly consume, let it be a dialogue of love and appreciation 🙏✨❤️
