Dear @erc.europa.eu , we DO already have common standards & frameworks. 'AI' likes to pose itself as 'special' but we do not need to reinvent the wheel. We already have established codes of conduct for research integrity. We just need to apply them. See below + more resources in thread🧵

Protecting the Ecosystem of Human Knowledge: Five Principles
We must protect and cultivate the ecosystem of human knowledge. AI models can mimic
the appearance of scholarly work, but they are (by construction) unconcerned with truth
— the result is a torrential outpouring of unchecked but convincing-sounding “informa-
tion”. At best, such output is accidentally true, but generally citationless, divorced from
human reasoning and the web of scholarship that it steals from. At worst, it is confidently
wrong. Both outcomes are dangerous to the ecosystem.
Olivia Guest, Iris van Rooij, Marcela Suarez, et al. (2025, n.p.)
Knowledge production is supposed to be safeguarded by (inter)national codes of conduct for research
integrity (ALLEA 2023; KNAW et al. 2018). Such codes forbid, for instance, fabrication of data,
falsification of results, plagiarism, and, generally, distortion of the scientific record. Many argue that
new rules are required to regulate academic AI use, but pre-existing guidelines fit the bill (cf. Tafani

There is a need to agree on common standards & frameworks for AI models used across all aspects of research evaluation. These should ensure & encourage trust, confidentiality, & transparency, & should be defined through collaborative discussions between research funding and performing organisations.

Susan Collins is always horrified by the predictable results of her own vote, which means Mainers who genuinely care about Susan Collins should elect Troy Jackson as he won’t vote for things that wind up upsetting Susan Collins, unlike Susan Collins

I think something to consider here is that Collins voted to confirm Russ Vought as OMB Director despite the fact that he said a billion times that he thought Trump had a constitutional right to illegally impound funds, and now she’s doing shocked Pikachu reactions.

Without warning or consultation, Congress just received an $810 million package of pocket rescissions from the Administration. This is the most recent attempt by this Office of Management and Budget (OMB) to undermine Congress's Constitutional power of the purse.
This move shows that OMB intentionally withheld these funds for months to execute this unlawful cancellation of appropriations that were approved on a bipartisan basis and signed into law.

look, i work for a giant music network, and I have no idea what song you all are talking about. Rolling Stone needs to realize that anyone on staff is like 5 sigma out of the norm on awareness of the music biz

once again, choosing not to comment my true thoughts on the increasingly outrageous circumstances the country is in (reading comprehension being what it is, and all, I mostly don't want to be misinterpreted)

I have seen a couple people suggest in the Anthropic settlement that you should try to get the publisher’s share back from the publisher once it has been sent through one mechanism or another, and I feel it incumbent upon me to remind everyone.

reminder: the explicit USPS rule (*currently blocked in court*) is that USPS will not deliver *any and all* mail ballots to voters in states that refuse to provide the fed gov with lists (lists that, even if they wanted, states can't do in time at this point) not technicalities — mass non-delivery

This is pretty fucking wild. I had assumed in a worst case scenario he would target blue zip codes and toss ballots based on technicalities but this is even worse than I imagined.
