I like birds and hiking.

They removed CD/DVD drives from PCs. -Made physical media harder to buy and use. -Removed expandable storage from phones. -Pushed us into streaming subscriptions. -Made always-online normal. -Made unlimited internet necessary. -Slowly raised the price of everything. Ownership quietly became renting.

I would prefer spending Canadian federal tax money on providing free courses on Critical Thinking, versus propaganda on AI use (I mean, the problem isn't use, it is content and people assuming content is correct or somehow that it is okay to use AI to write 5 paragraph emails to staff)

I am so excited -- all those right wing people who told me they were going to leave Canada for the USA when Carney got a majority can go bye-bye -- man who stopped and asked me for directions at Tranquille and then ranted about Carney, looking at you. Canada is better off today!

so topsy turvy in the world I had to figure out who Vance and the USA were supporting in the Hungary election - oh yeah, it was the guy who versaw a "domino in the global fall of democracy" through authoritarian clampdowns, far-right nationalist policies, and control over media and judiciary. 🤣😠

My latest: Alberta’s Separatists Are Chasing a Total Cowboy Fantasy thewalrus.ca/albertas-sep... via @thewalrus.ca Let's be honest, much of the separatist agenda is built around anti-immigrant lies & regressive "cowboy" myths. To call this language a dog whistle is an insult to dog whistles.

The province they describe—rural, homogeneous, under siege—bears little resemblance to reality

"Stinky Gerry" is the most modern carrier in the USN. The fact that it suffered a 10-hour onboard fire in a combat zone during active combat operations...and it went unreported by media is... remarkable

"Junk science is published, ingested, and finally summarized. It is effectively laundered by the model. Summaries become threat-vectors carrying payloads of bogus claims, which ultimately make their way into comment threads, boardrooms, news articles, and policy memos." bsky.app/profile/nick...

MAHA-aligned research is entering the training data of AI models that millions of people (and increasingly governments) rely on.

two mysteries for me re the USA: 1. how does Trump have any support left - seriously, #American readers, please elaborate 2. why do people still think that the Trump govt is going to give up power in the Nov elections? anyone with half a brain knows that isn't happening
