The Vancouver Villages plan was defeated. This is a huge blow to housing policy in the city. This was the easiest part of the Vancouver Plan to implement; Ken Sim directed staff to prioritize it. If we can't pass this, what's the point of any of it? All housing policy work here is in limbo.

Daniel Drezner@dandrezner.bsky.social · 4w agoMy hot take is that Lindsey Graham did many contemptible things but if you’re furious that his Senate Democratic colleagues are posting nice things about him today you need to put down your phone, get some fresh air, and remember a time when a colleague you disliked departed this mortal coil.
We did not often agree, but one thing I love about Lindsey Graham is that he died.

If you obsessively look at policies and platforms as a to-do list, and ignore everything else, you are extremely easy to manipulate. Look at John Fetterman. Look at “anti-war” Donald Trump. The only inoculating force to grifters like this is to study their character. Can you trust their judgment?

But I don't know a single person who actually *studies* the Senate (and granted, there are very few of us), who doesn't think the Trudeau reforms were an improvement over the previous status quo. That tells you something.
