Covid lockdowns demonstrated, in a deeply imperfect way, the possibility of large-scale social solidarity for a higher cause. That is a prime reason why so many powerful people want us to run screaming away from them into the comforting arms of selfish individualist competition.

The Spectrum of Kidney Disorders in Children Infected with COVID-19: A Retrospective Cohort Study

The COVID-19 pandemic, caused by the SARS-CoV-2 virus, has impacted various organ systems, including the kidneys, in adults and children. While acute kidney injury (AKI) is well-documented in adults w...

I really don’t understand why the government aren’t breaking with the US on covid and taking action. The economic burden of long covid is enormous and having rising long covid cases across a population is not good for the future of the country. It’s a major mistake.

Doctors should reflect that their patients begging for covid vaccine access who now have heart damage, of which I know several, have it because they have been left unsupported by a system that doesn’t want to admit the airborne vascular Covid risks. Denying Covid vaccines is absolute nonsense.

Interesting, RE the value of novelty, and an insightful comment by @nisreenalwan.bsky.social RE who may produce it. IMO this relates to the rise of pseudoscientific "hierarchies of evidence" that mirror hierarchies of influence - a terra nullius where nothing counts until the right people say it.

Interesting piece @science.org It's true that in the way scientific hierarchy is designed it generally rewards confirmation & penalises difference. What this paper misses is the epistemic injustice in recognition based on the identity of who presents the surprises. www.science.org/doi/10.1126/...

"There is no one more cowardly, vile, and utterly pathetic than Putin." A resident of Vladivostok called on Russians to appeal to the Ukrainian government and to anyone "who can help free Russia from the despicable regime that has seized the country and held onto power for a quarter of a century."

That's what taxes are, man. That's the definition of taxes. "You are subsidizing things you might never use" man shut the fuck up. My taxes currently subsidize like oil company exec private jets, you think I'm upset at low-income people eating inexpensive bananas?

Opinion: Mamdani's idea may sound appealing, but it's NYC taxpayers who will take the hit, subsidizing discounts they may never even use.

Bluesky is a "liberal bubble" because fascist chuds can't get traction without algorithmic assistance and because people here trained themselves to block "debate me" trybois the instant they roll up

Bluesky's new CEO Toni Schneider on the platform's reputation for being a liberal bubble: "Yes, we definitely want that to change. It is already changing. It certainly wasn’t designed to attract one specific group of people."

I agree with much of this, except framing COVID as a public health success. Denying COVID is airborne, based on opinions out of date since 1934 and in the face of accurate warnings by the actual scientific experts, was arguably the worst single medical error in history (🧵). The false binary...

Module 3 of the UK COVID Inquiry is out. Encouraging to see explicit recognition of the "widespread failure" of clinical leaders to understand aerosol science, and the "clear failure" of IPC leaders to understand that they might be wrong. #medsky #scisky covid19.public-inquiry.uk/reports/modu....
