The HWA removed the author of the juvenile AI-boosting screed from her position on the board of trustees for posting the juvenile AI-boosting screed that they allowed her to post on their official newsletter. Righto. Baby steps, I guess.

People can shout about AI's inevitability all they want, but if you use that shit to "write" or "generate" aaaanything when it comes to the craft of fiction, you're missing the fucking point entirely, and robbing yourself of a lot of joy and living. THE WORK IS THE POINT. Also, you're a pudwhacker.

I deleted some of my more aggressive comments about the HWA thing. For no other reason than I’ve been trying to be less angry, and those weren’t less angry.

Re: That HWA Shit I’m going to write my thoughts on AI soon. I’m more qualified than most, both being a creative and having a master’s degree in AI engineering. What the HWA newsletter said is…misguided at best.

The impression I get is that the people complaining about "gatekeeping" in writing/publishing aren't talking about the writing itself, but the business end They want someone to tell them the publishing industry isn't arbitrary. That there IS (cf. @debbiemoon.bsky.social) One Weird Trick (1)

I wrote so much today. 1.1k words in the novella. 2k on a blog post. 500 on a non-fiction piece. 1k miscellaneous.

It’s funny to see people post about how they’re about to turn 30 and this is the last chance for them to make writing work. I gave up on writing at 22 and came back to it at 33. Now I’m 37 and doing the damn thing. Do it on your own time.

One time during one of those two truths and a lie ice breakers at work, this woman hit us with, “I’ve summited Everest, I played for the REDACTED woman’s national soccer team, I have a PhD.” And the PhD was the fucking lie (because she hadn’t defended her dissertation at the time).

I’ll have you know that my backup glasses are also broken!
