Ulster University is making about 450 redundancies (which seems to be around 15% of the workforce) because of the need to save £25 million. Using the data they report to HESA (stopping in 2023-2024 so a bit out of date), this suggest that 2024-2025 #UKHE #HigherEducation #University 1/3

With Court agendas missing, minutes published late and papers non-existent, it’s our view that the important governance meetings at the University of Dundee should be live streamed and recorded, for openness and transparency.
What a pathetic, weak response from @bangoruniversity.bsky.social Solidarity @bangorucu.bsky.social & students in the debating society. Students showing more backbone to stand up to the far right than the university who are clearly running scared of the possibility of a Trumpian Reform Govt 😡
Toxic leadership, trampling dissent, gaslighting..... It's as if the co-op has borrowed the leadership model of a UK University www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...
Senior Co-op staff complain of 'toxic' culture at the top
Lawyers for the Co-op said they do not believe the complaints represent the broader views of staff

Now I'm not an economist, but I feel like this is not great economic news.
"The language of vocation, resilience and commitment is doing real work here - it helps sustain the university, but it also dampens resistance and discourages scrutiny of how resources, risk and reward are allocated" - the neoliberal university in a nutshell
Solidarity with our comrades @ucuatqub.bsky.social @qubelfastofficial.bsky.social must now severe all ties with Senator George J Mitchell
In response to the news that @qubelfastofficial.bsky.social has cut ties with Senator George J. Mitchell, following new information that suggests he remained in contact with the convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, we have released the following statement. 1/5
Time for @ulsteruni.bsky.social managers to take workforce stress seriously and trust their amazing staff, instead of spending money on surveillance platforms

Just @UlsterUni asking exhausted staff to carve out the time to explore professional development opportunities. We're kinda used to leadership's apathy toward the workload issues in UU, but have they already forgotten about the recently announced promotions freeze?
Perhaps they borrowed UU's "exceptional talent" process...
