A big solidarity hug to my friend and comrade @lopa.bsky.social - her final day as an inspirational President of @uonucu.bsky.social. It has been a pure pleasure to see her grow into that role and to lead the union through such difficult times. An extraordinary inspiration. Solidarity Lopa xx
With our current marking and assessment boycott coming to a close, we want to share @howardstevenson.bsky.social 's reflections on this action within our broader campaign. post16educator.org.uk/resources/ar...

Another day, another public letter condemning the ridiculous and harmful decisions made by our administration... This time, the letter comes from the All Parliamentary Party Group for Music Education, calling out the VC and UEB's push to close our music department.
What a perfect day to show solidarity with our LGBTQ+ members and colleagues at the Notts Pride March! We look forward to having an equally incredible time next year! #UCU #UONUCU #LGBTQ #Pride #NottsPride #Solidarity

Another week, another round of news stories condemning the choices made by our administration. www.theguardian.com/education/20...
Cutting language courses puts social mobility at risk, say UK experts

I'm not sure how many times we will need to say this, but we will say it every time until we win: yet another damning letter written by our community leaders condemning the path our administration is blindly following to ruin.
Nottingham is the only Russell Group university that will have no modern language provision at all. The East Midlands is becoming a language cold spot. It's not too late to reverse the cuts and closures. @uonucu.bsky.social has a fully-costed plan to save our university.
Please sign & share the open letter to save modern languages at the Uni of Nottingham, this is part of a much wider national crisis & this letter is a chance for the sector to speak with one voice: forms.cloud.microsoft/pages/respon... #SaveLanguagesAtUoN #HigherEducation @uonucu.bsky.social
'Nottingham is one of the largest providers of modern languages degrees in the UK, they note, with 500 students studying languages, and a further 2,000 students enrolled on language courses through its language centre.' Is Parliament gradually waking up to the university crisis? 3/3
'They add that a counterproposal put forward by the local...[UCU] branch is “credible, academically robust, and a financially sustainable model that would allow Nottingham University to retain a meaningful modern languages presence while delivering the savings required by the university”.' 2/3
'Politicians from the All-Party Parliamentary Group on Modern Languages have told the university’s executive “in the strongest possible terms to reconsider” the plans, in a letter seen by Times Higher Education.' 1/3

So management came to us last week with an offer to end the boycott. It increased buy outs for VR, extended the VR time, and offered to pay back some of the pay they stole from those participating in IA.
Your UCU branch has put in the work. We can save this university from financial ruin with compulsory redundancies or course closures. Our administration just needs to listen.
TFW your MP gets it and your management does not. Thank you for your support, @nadiawhittomemp.bsky.social! Solidarity!
I met with @uonucu.bsky.social to discuss the impact on members, the lack of proper scrutiny in this process, and the need for a new funding formula for HE. I am in contact with the university leadership and will continue to push for an outcome that protects as many jobs and courses as possible.
This isn't just a fight for UoN. This is a fight for the future of higher education in the UK and globally. Colleagues from across the country have supported us in our efforts, financially and otherwise. We thank these members and others for their generous donation which will help us keep fighting!
Solidarity works! Colleagues in History, Classics and Archaeology (HCA) at Newcastle have raised £586 for the UCU Nottingham fighting fund in support of members taking strike action against compulsory redundancies. The collection was organised in recognition that what happens at one
While it may look like the only thing our branch is doing is striking or boycotting, we are also tirelessly working behind the scenes to address the financial problems our university faces.
For those who I've been talking to about how @uonucu.bsky.social is fighting back, this was the part one of our Counter Proposal on the Finances 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
Unlike management's race to the bottom, this 69-page alternative proposal shows how a functioning, thriving & secure university is possible. This is what happens when principled, intelligent people, who genuinely care about HE put their amazing minds together. Well done @uonucu.bsky.social
Supporting your union while listening to songs from Rage Against the Machine and Queens of the Stone Age? Sounds like a good time to me! www.tickettailor.com/events/reneg...
More clear evidence that the community has our back: city council and members of parliament have joined our president to craft this important joint appeal condemning the horrific financial strategy that our administration continues force on the university.
I could not have been more honoured than to be asked to do this. Agnes had such a huge impact on so many people in Nottingham. She would be horrified to see what’s happening to the institution she worked so hard for.
"Winning is getting employers to say yes when they want to say no" A massive thank you to @howardstevenson.bsky.social for his wonderful (and wonderfully timely) talk at yesterday's Agnes Flues lecture. The perfect jolt of energy for our ongoing industrial action!
