Sending solidarity to our colleagues from @uculsbu.bsky.social on their first day of strike action against the latest LSBU academic restructure @ucu.org.uk @unisoninhe.bsky.social #solidarity

LSBU Branch of the University and College Union
Today, our members came out in force and made a lot of noise to remind management that we will NOT stand by while they attempt to destroy our working conditions & our students' learning conditions #wearetheuniversity
. @ucu-londonmet.bsky.social are also on strike to resist management's unleashing of 120 redundancies &multiple cuts. Branch Chair Christina Paine, reminds us that students cohorts at both LSBU and LondonMet are mostly local &working class. This is an attack on their education. Solidarity Christina
John McDonell MP speaking at our UCU LSBU rally this afternoon, saluting our resolve and telling us how despicable it is of LSBU management to try to squeeze in mass fire-and-rehire of staff this summer, just before new worker protections come in January.
Out in force at the picket lines today at LSBU, The Union will never be broken
Join colleagues, comrades and dogs (we hope!) this Monday 22nd & Thursday 25th June on Lsbu campus (off Borough Rd) &, as Stan says, join in with some protest songs... & recommend others to add to our playlist ✊🐶🐾
Picket lines at LSBU campus off Borough Road open at 9 with a rally at 12 this hot sunny Monday June 22nd. There may also be some good old protest singing if I have anything to do with it. Come join us! @kclucu.bsky.social @qmucu.bsky.social @goldsmithsucu.bsky.social @ucu-londonmet.bsky.social

UCU LSBU have voted overwhelmingly in support of industrial action, striking on 22nd and 25th June. Come and join us for some chat, food & music! Thank you for messages of solidarity & donations to our local strike fund. It's been invaluable, strengthening our members' resolve ✊
Staff going off sick with burnout. People leaving the sector for good. And the workloads left behind only get heavier. This is the reality for further education staff. Unmanageable. Unsustainable. And getting worse. Is your workload a problem? Tell us here: yoursay.ucu.org.uk/s3/Workload-...
Preparing for strike action next week! Come & visit us on the picket lines on Monday 22 June & Thursday 25 June ✊https://www.ucu.org.uk/article/14546/LSBU-staff-to-strike-next-week-in-fight-against-vicious-assault-on-academics-terms-and-conditions
A damning 97%. That's how many University of Lincoln staff who voted have lost confidence in senior management, after the university cut a third of its workforce and refused to rule out more compulsory redundancies. www.ucu.org.uk/article/1454...

LSBU is one of those universities, which is why our dispute is of national significance. To add insult to injury, the latest version of the 'Academic Transformation' plan presents this as an 'individual decision' that new staff can now make: join a crappy DC scheme or join no scheme at all. Even.
Universities up and down the UK are quietly moving staff out of the Teachers’ Pension Scheme to cut costs. Christine Blower co-chair of our Parliamentary Group, put it straight to the government. Pensions aren’t a cost cutting exercise. They’re staff’s terms and conditions. Hands off.
The dispute is not just about LSBU, but defending nationally negotiated academic contracts, resisting fragmentation of the workforce & protecting the future of academic employment across the sector. Help by donating to the strike fund, send a message of solidarity, share our messages, & visit us ✊

Amazing victory for comrades at Sheffield Hallam, whose extended industrial action halted management plans for a subsidiary which would have seriously undermined working conditions & pension entitlements. A powerful message for us at LSBU & nationally, showing what collective strength can achieve
PRESS RELEASE: UCU Hallam secures major win as Sheffield Hallam University drops plans for subsidiary company. See ucuhallam.org/ezm8 for more info.
Another great turnout yesterday at our branch meeting - over 100 people - preparing for industrial action in response to the academic transformation proposal ✊
