Many NYC paraprofessionals are in crisis, and are calling on the mayor to approve the RESPECT check passed by City Council last month. But with almost 2,000 paraprofessional vacancies citywide, they’re being asked to stretch themselves thin – many of them while working second and third jobs.
@riverdalepress.bsky.social: NYC paraprofessionals often need 2-3 jobs just to cover their bills, on top of a full day supporting NYC's most vulnerable kids. That's unacceptable and is exactly why the @council.nyc.gov unanimously passed the RESPECT check legislation. #RESPECTforParaprofessionals

1/ @uft.org is proud to fight for policies that help educators afford to live in the communities they serve. This is the promise of the RESPECT check, the promise we are holding this city accountable to, and the promise that we will fight to deliver for paras.
CM Selvena Brooks-Powers has firsthand experience witnessing the critical work paraprofessionals do every day, nurturing & fostering the development of loved ones. And as it stands – paras do not have the support they need to live in NYC. She voted YES to give #RESPECTforParaprofessionals.
CM Ty Hankerson is a proud product of NYC schools, and knows firsthand the difference that paraprofessionals make in the classroom.🎓 Thank you, Councilmember Hankerson, for demonstrating what is means to give real #RESPECTforParaprofessionals!

The case for tripling union membership: How rebuilding union power would strengthen workers, the economy, and our democracy
Foreword Imagine union membership tripling in the United States. It may sound radical—if you’ve forgotten history. In fact, more than 1 in 3 private-sector workers belonged to a union in the 1950s. Th...

“Paraprofessionals are the backbone of the school system” - John Kamps, Vice Chair of the @uft.org para chapter. Paras attend to students’ medical needs, offer critical classroom aid and SO MUCH MORE. It’s vital that this bill gets passed into law TODAY @mayor.nyc.gov #RESPECTforParaprofessionals
🚨It’s OFFICIAL. The RESPECT Check is going to a vote in front of the City Council this AFTERNOON! 🚨 Our allies on the City Council are standing with us – declaring today the day we take a big first step in getting paras what they deserve. More to come… let’s GET this DONE! 💪 #TimeForRESPECT
Tomorrow is a BIG day for all New Yorkers, especially paras and their students. All eyes are on the City Council. At 10:30 a.m., the Labor Committee votes whether to vote the para RESPECT check bill out of committee. If that happens, the bill will be voted by the full Council at 1:30 p.m.
Our paras provide critical services in our schools! Helping with behavior management, special education, instructional support and MUCH more. They deserve RESPECT. This is OUR week to get the RESPECT check done for them‼️ We won't stop fighting until it's done. And we WON’T stop fighting for them.
Some paraprofessionals are forced to live in shelters or work 2-3 jobs just to make ends meet– all while showing up everyday to support our students. With a starting salary of $32K in NYC, something has to change for these vital educators. Pass the RESPECT Check NOW!! #RESPECTforParaprofessionals
@uft.org Paraprofessional Diana Judge works bell to bell supporting our students– then works two more jobs just to afford to live. No educator should face that. We must pass the RESPECT Check so that paras can afford to live in the city that they serve. #RESPECTforParaprofessionals
