Can anyone explain to me the legal basis on which (British) libraries don't allow photos of material they hold that is comfortably in the public domain to be re-published? Doesn't seem to me that they have any legal leg to stand on, but they're often very strict. (Unlike US libraries, who are cool)

Fair enough, the issue isn't OA itself. The issue is APCs, which are an OA-specific issue. Let's not lose sight of that.

Today I officially notified all the Crick researchers that we're winding down all our TAs, alongside already not paying for hybrid APCs. The Crick is going fully gold, diamond and green. None of this hanging around for publishers to change.
