LOVE 💚 PEACE ☮️ FREEDOM 🕊 UNION STREET 🦡 The Minty Badgers. Oxford-based football club. Ragged band of vagrants, ne’er do wells and starry-eyed dreamers. Oxfordshire Senior League Division 4.

Cup game today. Bare bones, only two men on the bench. Five minutes in, a truly Herculean clash of heads for Curtis & Joe. Bloodbath. Double claret. The full Terry Butcher, in stereo. Off to hospital they went, to be shortly followed by Lee with a broken collarbone. Incredible scenes. Lost 4-3. FUN💚

Two freshly bloodied footballers with comedy head bandages.

Have you ever been assured by a referee - with the game poised at 2-2 with mere minutes remaining - that the match would be going straight to penalties, only to then be told at the final whistle that no, actually, it’s extra time, go and run around some more. All good fun. Lost 3-2 in the end. 💚

IT’S CLARENDON CUP FIRST ROUND DAY Extremely grass roots start to proceedings here at Sandy Lane as - with the changing rooms inevitably locked - we get changed under a tree eight feet from the ring road

Loads of semi-naked men under a tree. They will attempt play football soon.

💚Union Street 0-0 Bicester Town Colts 🔴 EXTRAORDINARY SCENES in today’s game as Union Street record their first goalless draw in 4897 days. Not much happened (as you can imagine) but a welcome first point of the season. Also, the oppo clubhouse has a telly that very possibly predates our last 0-0.

A bloody enormous telly

Back in the midsts of time, our matches were stalked by an enigmatic presence known as ‘The Man In The Dugout’ who, unbidden, would report on our games in a baffling variety of styles. Here’s an example: a 2017 clash against Portuguese foes ‘Lusitanos’ in the form of a 18th Century naval skirmish.

🙏 SHARES APPRECIATED 🙏 WANTED: grassroots football teams with good vibes and a social conscience to connect with and (who knows) maybe play friendlies and stuff with. Any ages/abilities/genders welcome. If you know of such a team with a presence on Bluesky, please do send them Union Street's way 👇💚

Hi Bluesky, we're Union Street FC - a ragtag amateur football team based in Oxford. Club motto: Love 💚 Peace ☮️ Freedom 🕊️ Values: good causes, fair play, supporting the refugee community and failing to defend corners. Currently scrapping it out in Oxfordshire Senior League Div 3. Come say hi x

A monochrome image of a huddled amateur football team, under leaden German skies. The background is of big trees. The image gives no indication whatsoever that this team is about to lose 1-0 to a collection of German men in their fifties and sixties.

💚 GAMEDAY 💚 Opening day. Bleary-eyed badgers, grudgingly waking from their summer hibernation, rise and sniff the air. A trip west(?) to play East(?) Oxford. Another season in Division 3 beckons, with all the Streety nonsense that entails. Love. Peace. Freedom. Team news to follow 💚

TOMORROW our season begins, and it's entirely possible we've gone overboard with the match graphics. JOIN US on our adventures as we dedicate ourselves to the overthrow of evil forces/avoiding relegation from the Oxfordshire Senior League Division Three. LOVE 💚 PEACE ☮️ FREEDOM 🕊️ UNION STREET 🦡

The background image shows Republic Of Ireland international John Aldridge flicking the V's at an unnamed FIFA official while mid-breakdown during a very hot football match at the 1994 World Cup. The overlaid text asks the player if they are wanting to manage Union Street, an extravagantly unsuccessful amateru football club based in Oxford.

Today’s friendly is with our pals at Oxford Phoenix. Phoenix are dedicated to creating a safe space for young refugees, asylum seekers and migrants, & USFC are proud to have helped support them on their journey to becoming one of the first refugee-based clubs to be admitted to the FA pyramid 💚🧡

Bloody hell that was hot Some classic pre-season nonsense from tonight’s fixture. One goal in the opening hour, seven in the last 30 minutes. A 5-3 defeat, two penalty saves and a worrying amount of minutes in our decrepit legs. ONWARDS 💚

14 incredibly tired footballers. Their kit is, if you’ll pardon the language, fucking mint.

💚 MATCH DAY 💚 We continue to pick listlessly at the smörgåsbord of our pre-season fixture list with an evening runabout against local types Wheatley FC. Our team is cobbled together, we have no goalkeeper, and best of all the ANTICIPATED TEMPERATURE AT KO IS THIRTY-TWO DEGREES CELCIUS.
