Brian Swetland@swetland.frotz.net · 34m agoIt amazes me how many people and (especially) companies are so ready to outsource everything -- including their private communications, source code, you name it -- to third parties that simply cannot be trusted to even just keep operating the service, much less treat that data with care.
I will only play games that are artisanally programmed by depressive 50-year-olds that have spent the last year working with Claude Code to develop a novel Forth language that they claim allows them to communicate with angels

I feel like you can make the same argument for cloud providers. It’s risky to rely on tech corps for anything. It would probably be better if anyone under 30 knew how to set up servers on-prem.

Jeff Rush@jeffrush.bsky.social · 1h agoBetter arguments: the screwdriver doesn't tell me I'm a good boy when I use it and then try to convince me to brew tea with it and when I question it tell me I was right to push back. It also doesn't "confidently hallucinate" screws.
I don't find the "AI tools train you to rely on them" thing very compelling, like yeah, that's how good tools work. It sucks when someone takes away your phillips screwdriver or your autocomplete IDE or google search for APIs. What you're saying when you say it is actually "It's a good tool."

This has been studied quite a bit, the solar panels create a sort of greenhouse effect for the plants underneath them while also generating energy which feels like it should be cheating but is real and literally only has upsides.
