Spain suspending Schengen for travellers coming from Italy is a political disaster for Meloni. She indulged in performative populism after Ceuta for entirely domestic reasons. Her bluff has now been called and she’s got absolutely nowhere to go. Pedro Sánchez has humiliated her. Good!

ECHR withdrawal means blowing up shaky relationships with the EU and Ireland. We have to assume her net zero policy will undermine decarbonisation and electrification. The Conservatives want mass deportation of 150,000 people a year.

Rod Liddle actually got the SDP's third best result in the 2024 general election: 4.8%, almost saving his deposit in Middlesbrough South & East Cleveland. Boosted by a small & weird Reform/SDP pact - where Reform stood aside for SDP (but the SDP did enormously worse than Reform would have)

I was struck by a piece on Radio 4 the other day, asking whether Burnham would be more "pragmatic" - meaning "positive" - about drilling in the North Sea. It was simply taken for granted that drilling was the "pragmatic" option, while opposing it was dogmatic or ideological.
