South West England via Spain and the Midlands - but made in NW5. Trying hard not to give in to despair
Hands up if you just knew Polanksi was going to wade in on this one and stick up for the guy jailed for a prolonged campaign of antisemitic harassment against a Jewish MP
Why are you commenting if you don’t know the specifics of the case!!!!!
just had a horrific vision of the future in which Zack Polanski and Kemi Badenoch have a podcast and now I need a lie down
Andy Burnham was challenged to say more about immigration. His words on carer & settlement + in Dover on borders & safe routes reveal his balancer instincts: for fair rules with gratitude for migrant contribution, for control + compassion. My Eastern Eye column www.easterneye.biz/andy-burnham...
Can Burnham find a new balance on immigration?

Once again, I come back to the fact these guys have created a situation where one of the UK's leading, cis female athletes is scared to go to the loo alone, and the fact that they are celebrating this as a step forward for women's rights.

The Hundred may be struggling for spectators, but cricket's One-Day Cup is thriving by using grounds that do not usually see professional cricket. Matthew Pennell explains why in a guest post for Liberal England. liberalengland.blogspot.com/2026/08/gues...
To be fair, “Councillors and council elections don’t matter” are a load-bearing part of the “Kemi Badenoch is doing well and the Conservative party’s prospects under her are looking good” thesis.
It's OK for criminal ex-neo Nazis to run your bins is a hell of a line.
You have got to be a complete idiot or cynically politically self interested not to know that people like Bonehill-Paine who claim to be combating antisemitism are merely using Jews to attack Muslims.
ConservativeHome has always been a critical friend of the Conservative Party, and a place for all of its wings and views to debate and discuss. So in addition to the above editorial, Bonehill-Paine is also in today’s Comment section making his own case conservativehome.com/2026/08/05/j...
Let me shock you - from blindly following Trump into the Iran disaster to allowing former Nazis to be Tory candidates, Kemi Badenoch has terrible judgement. That's quite a bad trait for a potential PM.
A gravedigger and his family, 1962. We think of the 1960s as basically the modern day, but millions of British people still lived like this. Gravediggers were probably paid quite well, too, compared to other manual workers. This is the reality behind the "corned beef of my childhood" nostalgia slop.
Not to go all Joxley, but the utter collapse of a sense of community pride and social responsibility within the Conservative party is at the heart of their current woes.
It's OK for criminal ex-neo Nazis to run your bins is a hell of a line.
Burnham, until last month the second most high profile locally elected official in the country, talking about local services from buses to social care and the need for more devolved powers and reform vs someone who proudly and loudly believes all that is for former neo-nazis or 'nice' Lib Dems.
It's almost as if it wasn't ever actually about anti-Semitism, isn't it?
The modern British (and international) right’s hypocritical treatment of antisemitism depending on its origin is on full display. Imagine a Labour candidate who was a former Islamic State supporter and who had been jailed for harassing a Jewish Tory MP. The right would not respond the same way!
This Tory candidate put our colleague & others through hell, was convicted of assault of police officer, extremist racism to Jewish & Muslim communities. Tory leader last month withdrew the Tory whip from Gavin Barwell after he posted criticisms of Badenoch’s stance against net zero. Tory choices
This is *such* a revealing line about Kemi's world view and contempt for those who do the day to day work of keeping our society functioning
If Jeremy Corbyn had said what Badenoch has said today, it would be leading every TV and radio broadcast and all of tomorrow's front pages.
Badenoch is absolutely convinced she is the smartest person in the room. Meanwhile ...

It's amazing (and terrifying) how so many people across the political spectrum convince themselves that the truth is what they want it to be. I am sure I do it sometimes. Call me out if I do. I may not acknowledge it immediately but will be grateful after processing.
Second chances for violent neo-Nazis but not for Louise Haigh
Let's take this slowly... Worst harvest on record means... Less home grown food and... More imports... From countries which also have droughts and fires... Meaning shortages and higher prices... And starvation (mostly not in the UK or anywhere we don't have to choose to see) #R4Today
I still think the chances of Badenoch ending up as a senior figure in the next government (even potentially PM) thanks to FPTP are massively under-rated. She'd be worse than Farage, IMO, because she is driven by conviction, not grift.
Kemi Badenoch has many flaws but an inability to recognise wounds which need to be cauterised as quickly as possible, and an impulse instead to double down, is a serious one.
The AI deep fake videos are, umm, the least of the problems here.
Kemi Badenoch on Crewkerne Gazette candidate: "I don't watch his videos. I don't even like those videos. I hate AI deepfakes."
From the number of senior Fifa figures turning on Infantino it's clear they're hoping to save Fifa by sacrificing its leader. But how can Fifa ever claim credibility again after 1. Blatter-era corruption. 2. Blatter's successor trying to sell the World Cup. 3. Trump/Balogun.

Just remembering all the edgy British lefties who swallowed the lines propagated by right wing Catalan ethno-nationalist separatists in 2017, the same ones now threatening to side with the far-right in the Spanish Parliament to stop even a single child refugee from Ceuta ending up in Catalonia.
