Ahem. I am looking for some book reccs for a friend of mine - early 20s male, autistic person - who is having a really hard time finding modern fantasy that isn't also at least partially romanstacy, which he cannot. Epic Tolkien is his bag, really, but he is seeking new stuff. Pls share for reach!

Happy #wipWednesday #knitsky ! I have the start of a pair of Hermione's Everyday Socks in John Arbon Exmoor Sock, and the start of a Frail Scarf in Tall Yarns Yak 2 (I miss their yarn!)
Started listening to the Lovecraft Investigations on BBC Sounds and so far the worst horror is a librarian willing to disclose someone's loan record. (this is not sarcasm)
I am approaching the point of having to buy a new phone. Not because there's anything wrong with my 6 year old phone, but because the OS is no longer being updated for that model. I don't want to lose my headphone socket and my extendable memory and have to deal with the AI bullshit.

there's not a lot of work for a COBOL developer in 1926
Enough “what would you do on the commune questions” If you got sent back 100 years and were given your grandparent’s job, what are you doing?
Just ordered new eclipse glasses for the August 12th eclipse! I don't trust my last ones to still be safe to use. www.skyatnightmagazine.com/advice/solar...
GNU Bill Oddie, you'll be so very much missed. I grew up on The Goodies and ISIRTA, and loved the work he did with the YOC. We once saw him at the Bird Fair, glowering tremendously. It was before he was well known for birding and we suspect he was trying to avoid fan encounters.
I think @floweringc.bsky.social because she'd be kind and practical about it. Wouldn't want an unkind narrator. Second choice Taliesin Jaffe, of course.
You suddenly get a narrator describing your life and there’s no way to turn it off - everyone can hear it. While shopping, at work, at home, with friends - the voice narrating your every move goes on. Who do you hope is the voice of this narrator?
in case anyone was wondering how a) work b) hormones c) health in general d) the whole internet saga has been treating me, I, a person with no energy due to all of the above meaning getting nowhere near enough sleep, have just spent 90 minutes hauling brambles and ivy out of the garden.
We have home internet restored! Virgin Media, in their infinite wisdom, had sent us out a new hub that had not been activated for use.
This morning, probably, we should have an engineer coming to look at why our fibre broadband isn't working. Bets on whether they fix it or not?
Stop scrolling!!! A puffling* has been spotted in Purbeck, Dorset for the first time in 30 years! *Baby puffin (yes, they have the cutest name)
I have a skein of this gorgeous yarn and need to decide what to make with it. I'm thinking either Hitchhiker or Samadhi? #knitsky www.thirdvaultyarns.com/ourshop/prod...

my brother does something with statistics for the red list for Bird Life International. a) I would suck SO BADLY b) I would never get appointed to it as I don't have a master's degree
Thought experiment- if you were suddenly appointed to do your sibling’s job, how badly would you suck at it?
Virgin Media sent us a new hub (modem/router). They disable the old hub 5 days after the new hub arrives. The new hub doesn't work. The old hub has been disabled. In 9 days they'll send us an engineer. Until then, we don't have the internet or telly services we pay them for.
I am sitting close to two fossilised anenomes and an agate with a water bubble trapped inside.
It’s Rock Day: Rock Check! Do you have your rock? Do you need a rock? Can you find a rock? I found this lovely porphyritic basalt in my washing machine. I love how the different crystal sizes tell a story of an eruption rudely interrupting cozy subterranean cooling. Photos & stories welcome.
Cheers to whoever was playing piano on Waverley Station just now, sounded brilliant
