Andy Burnham: We’ll value the hard hat as much as the graduation cap

What is holding back our teenagers isn’t lack of ambition but the skills and experience to make the most of it, the prime minister writes

Net migration has fallen from 944,000 to 171,000. Yet that headline conceals major movements in both directions – including substantial emigration by British and EU+ nationals. So, asks Jonathan Portes, what exactly is the problem people want politicians to solve?

Reducing net migration was never the real issue

Our immigration statistics have served to legimise racism. Reduced net migration was not what people wanted

Opinion | The first major achievement of his premiership is the successful establishment of both working class credentials and approachability. This may well prove to be the key to seeing off the threat posed by Nigel Farage 🖋️ @mrjamesob: trib.al/hleOY6l

This disingenuous commentary doesn’t help anyone. Frauds start unravelling pretty quickly. That you apparently cannot afford to put your oven or treat yourself is quickly undermined by the question “so why are you spending £50 per week on petrol?” Then, it turns out, she has an agent and /1

Elaine in this article "can't remember the last time she used her oven" but also spends £200 a month on petrol (so driving probably ~50 miles a day?) (she's also a professional old person; she was on Good Morning Britain last year, and then also at the Nov budget, and the year before lmao)

🚨BURNHAM ELECTED LEADER🚨 "And if we don't have sufficient public control over the cost of the essentials, how can we have control over inflation, public spending and the rest of the economy?" "The right use the phrase take back control, but they are the ones who gave it away in the first place."

One from the archives: "A video of Nigel Farage shows him saying that as an MEP he could earn as much as a Goldman Sachs banker through claiming expenses and employing his wife" (which he did) When Farage talks about how much he's supposedly sacrificed financially by going into politics...

Nigel Farage claims in video MEPs can earn like a Goldman Sachs banker

In footage from 1999 or 2000, the Ukip leader is heard criticising the MEP expense system as 'wrong' and 'monstrous'

I trust the people of Clacton to judge me on my record. Apart from the record that shows I have visited American more times than Clacton, have never held a constituency surgery and rarely bother to drag my arse into Parliament to do my actual job.
