This entire map ignorance controversy makes me sick, to realize how common stupidity is. Representing a 3D planet in 2D introduces distortion, DUH. How can people be so friggin' idiotic??

Today, I'd had enough of my unintentional Duck Dynasty appearance. The beard I ditched today was more a product of laziness than anything else. But then, over my half-century of adulthood, that has been the usual cause of my periodic beards. Growing a beard is not an activity; being beardless IS.

I can easily do the Vulcan salute with my left hand, but my right hand...not so much. The thumb on my left hand is double-jointed (loose) too. I am right-handed. But my left hand is more talented.
To have any chance at all of dealing with climate overshoot past 1.5 C in a timely way, we must cut CO2 emissions AND make extremely deep cuts to methane. But people are sometimes surprised to learn that most of our methane emissions come from the food system. drawdown.org/insights/we-...

Food is the largest source of human-caused methane – we ignore it at our peril

A study of 177 large mammals (weighing more than 10 kilograms) that went extinct between 1,000 and 132,000 years ago concludes that humans, not changes in climate, may have been the main factor in driving the animals over the brink. www.sciencenews.org/article/huma...
Humans have long history with causing extinctions
Data suggests major die-offs of large animals during the last Ice Age were linked to people, not climate.

Well, would you look at that. Congressional Republicans have announced an "investigation" today of 19 environmental organizations, including us. We won't back down to their bullying and threats.

The statistical peak of the Atlantic hurricane season is September 10. That's Thursday of next week. Typically, the first hurricane would have formed by now, but the current conditions, influenced by a strong El Niño, have suppressed storm development.
At this moment, approaching midnight on September 3rd, 2026, I sport a beard that closely resembles that of Phil Ittner. Tomorrow, I will lose it and attempt to go with only a U-Moustache for a while.
Today, I succeeded in repotting my mother's agave americana, without drawing blood. :^) It will most likely never be repotted again, so be happy where you are, demon plant.
I've gained a lot of new followers recently due to being included (without my consent) in a BlueSky starter pack. I like followers, but you may be disappointed by my environmental orientation and random thoughts. I have other interests, but biosphere and climate are paramount, overshadowing others.
I'm sorry, my friends, but none of these issues matter worth a shit without our life support system, a living, healthy biosphere. What difference do any of them make, otherwise?
A 53,000-acre #logging project in #Washington will target protected old-growth forests and destroy critical habitat for northern spotted owls and bull trout. We're in court challenging the U.S. Forest Service for approving this destructive project. Please support our fight ⬇️

The Chicxulub asteroid impacted Earth's surface, essentially immediately after hitting the atmosphere. At 60 miles above the surface, you are basically 'in space', in a vacuum. At the asteroid's 45,000 MPH, it would cross that distance to the surface in less than five seconds.
My god, there is such a multitude of extremely important issues facing us. It boggles the mind; it's hard to keep up with, seriously!! And yet, absolutely NONE of them matter without a livable planet.
I've got a routine now of taking my mostly indoor kitty, BobCat (a domestic mutt cat), outdoors for 20-30 mins around sunset. He is a senior kitty (16 yo) who, until recently, hasn't had any interest in the outdoors. But he clearly enjoys it. And I take pleasure in his explorations around the yard.

I love the challenge of growing watermelons. I mean, you can buy one at the grocery store for $7-8, or spend $25 in the hope of a successful harvest.
When I was volunteering at the COVID19 vaccine POD in 2021, people would say over and over again that they were getting vaccinated for the people they love. Last year, only 17.5% of American adults got the COVID19 vaccine. Please get one for the people you love. 💕
