Saw the Odyssey tonight. Cinematographically, it was great. But I did think the idea of Odysseus twanging his bow to give his prey the heads up, 'because that's the honourable thing to do' was a choice!

Haven't seen the film yet; Nolan's Odyssey is probably full of historical inconsistencies - so is Homer's. And anyone who has waded through accepted translations into Victorian notions of bardic language, all 'forsooths' & 'methinkses,' should hit pause on instinctive hostility to this adaptation.

And the fact it’s not just a blokey rightwing bloke fest. It’s reflective and intimate at times, some incredible performances.
Oh please please let them. The banter heuristic of them having to apply for visas to leave their village alone would be worth it.
Classicists criticising The Odyssey film without having watched it is making me cringe inside out. Sorry but it’s a win. It’s accessible, it’s appealing, it’s pissing off right wingers, and it’s explicitly named after a classical text that working class people will now go and pick up. Take the W.
