I know it's gauche to quote tolkien but genuinely the most interesting thing in his letters to me is this one from 1963 wherein he laid out in very plain terms what I think is THE fundamental thing that makes so much art have a life in your head beyond what you see on a page or play in a game

I am doubtful myself about the undertaking. Part of the attraction of the L.R. is, I think, due to the glimpses of a large history in the background: an attraction like that of viewing far off an unvisited island, or seeing the towers of a distant city gleaming in a sunlit mist. To go there is to destroy the magic, unless new unattainable vistas are again revealed.

In the grand scheme of things it’s a wonderful thing that anyone with a pc can make a Blender tutorial on anything but boy is it infuriating when 5 different tuts all make a simple task seem super complicated only for 50 sec reel/tiktok to reveal they all wasted your time.

I don’t know if this is a controversial take, but this is exactly why I am in favor of having more auteurs in game production. I feel we need more creative leads with a passionate clear vision that know exactly what they want.

No studio will ever generate 4 options and be like one of these is perfect. They will generate hundreds/thousands driving up executive indecision and take just as long. The actual problem is not how long artist take, its leadership not knowing exactly what they want. AI will not solve that.
