No one understands the REAL reason GameStop was trying to buy eBay, and this is because eBay owns TCGPlayer, and GameStop's only route of survival now is to become CardStop because that's all they'll be able to sell. They absolutely saw the writing on the wall.

I've bought every Sony console within a year of its release since I was in middle school, and this is probably going to be the first time I don't. The PS1 start-up screen sound used to be my comfort noise. Now it will just sadden me. Will probably migrate over to FFXIV on PC and call it a day. πŸ€·β€β™€οΈ

this is something i think about CONSTANTLY especially in terms of software and writing, two things i work on young people today never knew a time when your phone or computer didn't slap your hand and change words YOU TYPED without permission

I’ve been thinking a lot about the shifting baseline concept as applied to everyday life. People in their 20’s now have no memory of highly functional systems, products (from blenders to sweaters) that were so well made you could hand them down across generations, or even helpful customer service.

I don't think folks younger than 30 know what the internet once legitimately promised to be (and I would argue briefly was): a boundary-less space of pretty much uncommodified information and communication. A mix between community bulletin boards and university library stacks.

My 1999 self would weep at how totally broken the internet has become. AI slop, social media walled gardens that rot the brain, surveillance pricing and advertising, every single goddamn website has an endless cloudflare captcha loop before you get to read anything. Burn it all down.

The dialogue options to jokingly imply Y'shtola has motherly energy are fun and all, but nothing beats calling Shantotto "Mommy" in FFXI and her changing your title to "Total Loser" in response, requiring you to pay gil to get it changed back and letting everyone on the server know what you did.
