They younger selves lean onto each other, laughing and chatting. They are wearing the same clothes and matching earrings. Their bodies burned away from the bottom up like pieces of paper. At the bottom of the page are present Jiang Cheng and Wei Wuxian standing in silence.

Jiang Cheng looks at present Wei Wuxian, his face still hidden behind his hair. He turns away again.
Jiang Cheng: That bastard sure is lucky.
Wei Wuxian: Who? Lan Wangji? Why?
It's the first time Wei Wuxian's present face is clear.

There are several frames showing their life prior to Wei Wuxian's death. Them as kids at the Lan clan of Gusu, playfighting on a bridge, them, now older, with Jiang Yangli, seemingly pestering someone, them right after Wei Wuxian's return, about to torture Wen Chao, with both Wei Wuxian and Jiang Cheng looking abnormal and excited.
Each frame of their past is accompanied by a frame of Lan Wangji watching. His frames grow closer, as is his distance, but he is always separated from the two by the frame border.

Jiang Cheng pauses.
Jiang Cheng: He doesn't need any readjustment.
