For “most out there” I would go with “Marie & Gali”, an anime about a girl who doesn’t get science who is isekai-ed into a city of history’s great (and wildly caricatured) scientists. Her mentor through it all is a bum-like Galileo.

One of the most random design choices in Pokemon Gen 1, is that the champion battle is programmed to turn on battle animations, even if you previously disabled them. It is the only instance in the game, where it just changes your settings without telling you.
