The coolest thing, I think, about eclipses, is that Earth is exactly the right distance from our Sun for the moon to just obscure it. As the universe is expanding, we're moving further away from the Sun. In this, as in so many other ways, we're really living in a sweet spot. #PaleBlueDot #Eclipse

Major Oak: Ancient 'Robin Hood' tree is dead, experts say

The Major Oak is thought to have stood for more than 1,000 years in the heart of Nottinghamshire's Sherwood Forest.

All true. And with geographic isolation, it's keenly felt in the region's vast rural area. Yet these could be sources of huge pride and employment. We have huge carbon sinks in NE forests, soils & Peatlands, and energy aplenty. Where's investment in the training and jobs needed in our rural areas?

Calling all teachers & environmental educators - fantastic #CPD near Hexham on June 19th and 20th (with camping, food and music!) Amazing line up of workshops and speakers, and a lovely chance to spend time connecting with some heartening folks in the countryside. #Regenerative Ticket link below

This is fantastic. I hope it includes retakes too? It's actually impossible to resit a gcse without also being enrolled on a full time course if you're aged 16-18. It's free if you're 19+ and you can do it online. This is both age and disability discrimination. #autism #SEN #ADHD

Exeter University are offering free GCSEs for children in elected home education, noting that many children across Devon and Cornwall are in EHE the majority "off-rolled" or with unmet SEN. #autism #education www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...

A GENTLE REMINDER: we are trying to eliminate fossil fuels because using them kills us. If fossil fuels were cheap (they're not) or reliable (they're SO NOT), it would still be urgent to get rid of them because their intended use destroys our life support systems.

A quick win for the @DfE @DoH and @DWP to help NEETs with mental health issues is to fund English and Maths GCSE retakes without requiring 16-18yo to also enrol on another college course. Can be done if you're 19+, why not if you're 16? @AlanMilburn @PatMcFadden www.gov.uk/government/n...

It's the Inglorious 12th. The start of the Red Grouse shooting season. Grouse shooting: an expensive niche hobby of shooting birds for fun, based on environmentally damaging burning of our uplands and underpinned by crime against wildlife. Shame!
