so disappointed to see that @squidgoddev.bsky.social 's new playdate game was partially vibe coded, especially coming from him, who likely was a lot of people's first foray into developing games for playdate thanks to his numerous tutorials feels so hopeless 🫩

to the surprise of absolutely nobody at this point, big walk good looking out to the ocean with your friends felt incredibly real and special. 🥹 it looks to be a really fun and lengthy adventure, i genuinely can't wait to play more of it the music is absolutely stunning as well

decided to switch from a dual grid system to a 47-tile blob tilemap it was a lot of extra work but at least the collision rectangles align better with the terrain, so that'll save extra bitmap collision checks! shoutout to this pastebin for the bitwise logic i needed pastebin.com/zk0pMXe9

a mage character is standing on top of procedurally generated 2D terrain built from tiles of various shapes. a debug overlay displays the terrain's collision boxes as magenta rectangles

so belgium reworked its age rating system for tv, adding two new age categories (everyone, 6 and up) as well as pictograms for content warnings it's a good initiative but uh, why is the pictogram for discrimination specifically depicting a *white* stick figure as the one discriminated against? 🫩

belgium's new age rating pictograms, styled as text, numerals, or symbols inside a white circle. they're shown arranged in two columns:

column 1 displays all the age ratings: "AL/TOUS" (everyone), "6", "10", "12", "16", and "18".

column 2 displays pictograms for specific content warnings: "violence" (a knife dripping with blood), "fear" (a screaming emoji), "sex" (two stick figures laid atop one another in bed), "addictive substances" (a bottle of alcohol and pills), "foul language" (a speech bubble with grawlixes), and "discrimination" (two stick figures shoving a third, differently colored stick figure)

of note is the fact the discrimination pictogram depicts the discriminating stick figures with solid shapes making them appear dark skinned, and the discriminated against stick figure with outlines, making it appear light skinned 😬

y'know, i think one reason i find it hard to get back into playdate development is that... it's hard to find a suitable community to share my stuff with? it's not as fun to create stuff when you don't have that many people around to share it with, or ask for help or advice.

this game has been removed. 🫠 what a year this year is you can always feel free to call out questionable submissions — we'll take a closer look at our processes, but in the meantime, we are bound to make mistakes. hopefully they're rare, but, humans.

@play.date just published this game on their catalog and i feel like it's a great poster child for why blindly trusting developers saying "nah i didn't use ai for this, trust me bro" is a dumb policy play.date/games/pocket... can't be that hard to realize all the artwork was ai-generated 🥴
