Yup. My hockey team is twenty somethings to fifty somethings. And queer af. In all the ways. Oh, and some have played big time. I’m straight out of rookies camp, and I’m not alone in that. We play for fun. As it should be indeed.

There were 8 players spanning 5 decades and multiple levels of skill at our neighborhood basketball court this evening. One of them was trans. Nobody cared. We all had fun. This is how it should be.

My mom knows shorthand. And did this type of work for years. And yeah. She’s bright, my mom. Huh.

I like this notetaking example. it is a good case of how gender works. Notetaking has never been about producing a transcript. It is a bureaucratic skill in the 20th c. organixarion because it is SENSEMAKING. Those women socialized to take notes? They have been doing men’s metacognition for them

Or 40. Or 50. I can’t speak to 60 yet, but I’ve talked to people of all ages about this. And if they’ve got any age on them at all, they tend to agree that there is a sweet spot. A few decades that are better than the rest. And that doesn’t start in your twenties.

Yes. Though not always World Book. And not our own*. This was at the library. I’d think of a random thing & look it up. Or sometimes just pick randomly. I’d run my finger along the shelf with my eyes closed & then stop & look something up. *We had one “A” volume. Free starter at the grocery store.

My dad once told me that no one should die from lack of a completely renewable resource. He was right. Only 3% of adults in the US donate blood. Imagine if 10% did. It’s a renewable resource. We have so much more than we need on the planet. We should share.

Someone in DC set up a “little free blockbuster” with DVDs inside instead of books lol

This just drips with privilege. Many people have no one. Period. Also, taking your kids grocery shopping is so very normal. Like, the normal-est? Besides that, it’s a valuable learning opportunity. I cut coupons, learned about value versus price, got the deli meat (from the butcher),etc.

I actually love hanging out at the airport. I am needed all day, every day. I make thousands of decisions every shift plus all the regular ones everyone makes. Once I’m at the airport, nothing is up to me. I’ve done my part. I’m where I’m supposed to be. And I’m not in charge. And that’s glorious.

I used to work in Barnes and Noble. Here I am at my local B&N. When I told a bookseller it was mine, she got on the loud speaker and said, “There is an author in the building!” Another staff member came over and they asked me to sign my books and congratulated me. Thanks, B&N!

OMG, y’all. I slept, like, 8.5 hours. What is this?! (Today was a “no alarm” day, a true luxury, as correctly defined by @sorcyress.bsky.social. I don’t remember the last time I had one of those. Truly. And more than six hours of sleep? Unheard of for months, with most being less. I’m grateful.)

This. Kind of like A Christmas Story not being 1940s Americana in general, but specifically white, blue collar but doing ok, suburban 1940s Americana. That’s not to say it’s a bad movie, but it’s by no means a universal one.

I'm fed up with a certain third spaces convo that's being weirdly obtuse but one thing I do want to say is that while white teen boys may have been able to hang out freely and safely in parking lots, & parks at night, teen girls and kids of color have a different experience.
