This bears a lot of repeating. We've put a LOT of laws on the books in 250 years. Most of them stupid bureaucratic horseshit, and most of them also far too open to interpretation. "Whether the state wants to punish you" has a higher correlation with jail sentences than any moral "you deserve this"

I know everyone is blaming Trump for the USMNT losing today. But it was probably actually my fault. First time I left the house for a watch party the whole tournament. I promise, I won't do it again.
It is genuinely as annoying as shit how, in certain online spaces, you will get absolutely dogpiled for exhibiting any opinion more nuanced than "America is ontologically evil and you are never allowed to have any positive sentiment about the country."
Update: Cabo Verde's dreams were not allowed to come true. Tragic finish, but it really cannot be understated just how incredible CV performed today. Expanding the Cup to have more teams was worth it just to see these guys do their country proud.

True on both counts - some folks are INCREDIBLY good at sticking their heads in the sand. And more importantly, that the folks doing the suffering are going to seek joy where they can because dwelling on the suffering 24/7 will drive you mad. Joy while being persecuted is an act of resistance.

Today, on Juneteenth, America marks the end of slavery. It was a real and dark part of our history. But Trump wants to rewrite that history and even honor Confederate traitors. It's a disgrace. America is stronger when we confront our history and work to be better.
