Dar Williams, at St Pancras Old Church this evening. She did The Ocean, and February, and The Christians and the Pagans, and The Babysitter’s Here, and When I Was a Boy, and of course Iowa, and so much else. 😭😍😭

Festivids signups are open! festivids.dreamwidth.org/165456.html Closing on Friday October 9th.

New tattoo today! Here is my little dog, based on an ancient Roman mosaic, just above my ankle. I love it so much!!

Will I get the hang of Bluesky for more than just posting or reccing Shetland fic? Jury’s still out. Anyway, I wrote a fic! 8.5k words of femslash smut that’s also about choices, and places, and Tosh’s sense of self. And about the simmer dim. archiveofourown.org/works/93096301

Speaking of reccing Shetland fic, this one is very sad and very beautiful!

I was encouraged to write sad fanfic while recovering from the flu, god I hate recovering from the flu, here is a story. archiveofourown.org/works/92893706

here's a story! nsfw, Shetland again, m/m, m/f, basically my most favourite genre, INTENSELY SAD SMUT. archiveofourown.org/works/90894551

This is such a warm and lovely fic full of friendship and people who care about each other very much.

usuallyhats@usuallyhats.bsky.social · 2mo ago

I wrote another Shetland fic! Mostly gen about Tosh this time: archiveofourown.org/works/91186551

Some former colleagues of mine did this, and then discovered they had forgotten to enquire about the seal's holiday plans.

David Shiffman, Ph.D. 🦈@whysharksmatter.bsky.social · 2mo ago

Marine biology fact: a seal with a satellite transmitter hat on its head is the funniest thing in the world.

Incredibly basic thing - charities need paid staff and those staff need to be paid at something approaching a competitive market rate for the roles they are performing. Shockingly large number of the donating public do not know or understand this, and get very angry about it.

We did have a hell of a journey down here!! @alwaystheocean.bsky.social was a hero who got us here in extraordinary circumstances!

Always the Ocean 🧜🏼‍♀️🌊@alwaystheocean.bsky.social · 2mo ago

So yesterday I drove from London to the Lake District with a minor 7 hour delay at Oxford services cuz I got rear ended at speed trying to enter a roundabout. All occupants of the car fine but poor darling car was a write-off due to being nearly twenty years old.

Having a very lovely time in the Lake District with sixteen (16) of my wonderful friends! Lots of swimming, lots of beauty, lots of laughter!

I have been dealing with some recent stress by writing a lot of fic. Here’s a new BBC Shetland one! Ruth/Tosh, in which Tosh breaks up with Donnie, gets extremely drunk with Ruth, has lunch with Jimmy, and deserves the whole world. archiveofourown.org/works/88497051

It’s my birthday! I am, somehow, 41 today! @llincathryn.bsky.social took me to see this exhibition and it was awesome! qbcentre.org.uk/exhibitions/...

I was chatting about Riot Women with some of you at VidUKon, & I’ve also been writing some fic for it! Here’s some smut I posted this week - Kitty/Beth, what if they did have sex the night they met? Beth’s pov, big feelings & adrenaline-fuelled decision making. archiveofourown.org/works/88004436

Fic rec! This is LOVELY!!

usuallyhats@usuallyhats.bsky.social · 3mo ago

I wrote a fic? For the first time in nearly a decade?? BBC Shetland, Jimmy/Duncan, set post season seven: archiveofourown.org/works/88112086

I am knitting my second ever jumper and yesterday I got to the short rows, and I am pretty sure I have fucked them up the same way I did with the last jumper, and now there are wee holes at the turns. I am considering going back and trying again, but also. What if no?

And I wrote a fic! BBC Shetland, because of course it is - Ruth/Tosh and Jimmy/Duncan. This one is @alwaystheocean.bsky.social @generalising.bsky.social @llincathryn.bsky.social @singlecrow.bsky.social and @usuallyhats.bsky.social's fault. archiveofourown.org/works/87486841

Went to Cornwall last weekend and swam in the sea a lot, then came back on Monday just in time for this heatwave. Been questioning all my life choices since.

Explain your @ It’s a Dar Williams lyric from her song, The Ocean, and looking at the lyrics now there’s at least a dozen others I could just as easily have used. But also, I just love all bodies of water. But especially, always, the ocean. 😂🌊 genius.com/Dar-williams...

While Pink News has the best headline, GoMag has the best pictures, i.e. pictures of the actual ex-nuns, not just random stock photos:

this might be the best headline i’ve ever read

Shetland is my big current fannish love and I am SO SAD about this, I adore Tosh SO MUCH. 😭

Hello, I made another Heated Rivalry vid. It's called hiders. It premiered at VidUKon 2026 a bit ago and now everyone else who wants to watch it can also watch it. archiveofourown.org/works/86121931

This is AWESOME, visually very beautiful, and also a lot!

And second, Amen, made for @nubreed.bsky.social 's vidshow "On This Forlorn Road" to celebrate the ten-year anniversary of Lemonade youtu.be/I8ANSzgpqiU?... archiveofourown.org/works/86255086

This is FANTASTIC, I could not stop grinning all the way through it, just brilliant

marahsarie@marahsarie.bsky.social · 4mo ago

Because every show deserves a vid to this song, my VidUKon premiere was a Babylon 5 vid to Ke$ha's TiK ToK: www.youtube.com/watch?v=HTj3... On AO3: archiveofourown.org/works/86073936

And this is not a vid rec, it's a fic rec, for an incredibly, breathtakingly beautiful piece of writing about love and grief, for my current best beloved TV show.

Iona@singlecrow.bsky.social · 4mo ago

I wrote a fanfic, which for me right now is a big deal as I'm not writing much at all! for BBC Shetland, in honour of the week I spent on Shetland in May.

I actually did not think I had that many Perrin feelings, but this vid proved me SO WRONG on that front, this is so many feelings

@sandalwoodbox.bsky.social · 4mo ago

A #TheWheelOfTime vid about Perrin focusing on his relationship with violence, nonviolence, the wolf inside him, and the people around him. youtu.be/lDSlNqKf8Ss I made this for #VidUKon 2026. AO3: archiveofourown.org/works/83433696
