A 30-something bundle of nerves. I think I was trying to be a game programmer at some point? Not as into Earthbound as the profile pic might suggest (but I do like it). BC, Canada (FF14: Rick Garrick@Excalibur)

It is well-known that Mario is named after Nintendo of America's former landlord, Mario Segale. It has been discovered that his father, Louis Segale, was actually named Luigi before changing his name during immigration, making it an astounding coincidence that the real Mario's real father is Luigi.

Mario Segale (1934-2018) was a real estate developer and landlord of Nintendo of America's warehouse in 1981, famously being the inspiration for Mario's name. Minoru Arakawa, then president of Nintendo of America, reportedly named him after Segale because Segale was so reclusive that Arakawa did not know what he looked like.
It has been discovered in 2026 by genealogy researcher Elisabeth Zetland that Segale's father, Louis Segale, was actually born Luigi Maria Segale near Genoa in Italy, before changing his name to Louis during his immigration to the United States (adopting anglicized names being common among immigrants at the time).

Since this fact has not been known until now, there is no way this could have factored into the naming of Luigi, but it is still immensely notable that the real-life Mario's father turned out to have been Luigi all along.

They're honoring Mitch McConnell by doing exactly what he was known for in life: delaying for months mandated-by-law government nominations/elections following the death of an official, and then watching the Democrats do absolutely nothing to justifiably retaliate.

Long ago, the world was nothing more than an endless sea cloaked in a boundless sky, reaching as far as could possibly be imagined. Then two great Titans came into existence. The Bionis and the Mechonis. The Titans were locked in a timeless battle. Until at last, only their lifeless corpses remained
