My library has an annual event where it gives away little painting kits and has an art show with the paintings made from the kits. Three years ago I painted a Tremors.
1 like = 1 book question I can probably answer these...
I talk shit about comic homage covers, but every now and then I'll do an homage piece. I haven't done one for a front cover of Meeting Comics. This was the back cover of Smooth Moves. Not only is it a reference to Midnight Marauders, Val is wearing a Low End Theory shirt.
One of my two appearances in Meeting Comics, which appears in my second book, CLOCKING IN AND SELLING OUT. I used the final panel for my "about the author" page in that book.
I don't use a lot of labels of identity when my characters describe themselves or when I discuss them, but here is a rare Meeting Comics where the question of Val's sexuality is addressed directly. This comic will be in this book: www.kickstarter.com/projects/wan...

A bunch of Tina and Ellie strips that will be in the new book
I have shared some comics that will be printed in TINA AND ELLIE TAKE THE CASE, but not many of Tina and Ellie, so here are a whole bunch from over the course of the book, in which they actually take two (2) cases! Please sign up to follow the kickstarter here: www.kickstarter.com/projects/wan...
A short thread about how Tina and Ellie came to be the featured stars of my third book
I'm about to launch a kickstarter for the third Meeting Comics colelction, TINA AND ELLIE TAKE THE CASE, and While Meeting Comics has always been more than just office shenanigans, a significant amount of this book is dedicated to Tina and Ellie solving mysteries. How did I decide to do that? hmmmm
Last night I tried to work on my current comic page before bed, but I'm designing a physical space on that page and was too tired to make it work. I still wanted to draw, so I set a timer for 30 minutes and this suggestive piece emerged

It's not that I don't like Jon Bernthal's acting, it's that Fred Ward is my favorite actor, and they look enough alike that everytime I see Bernthal, it's a bit like the sensation of waving at someone you think is your friend only to see it's absolutely not them once they get a little closer
I had trouble naming characters at first, and part of that was that when I started, I didn't have any plans for my comic at all, and didn't know that I was even making an ongoing series with regular characters. Once they started sticking around, I knew I needed to name them, and I sweated over it...
Q for writers of all stripes -- prose, screenplays, comics, etc. If you use temp names for characters in early drafts, do you find yourself struggling when renaming them with their "real" names? And if so, how do you make peace with the changes?
party illustration with two flat colors. A fun exercise in shapes. I'll mark it "nudity" even though it's more graphic than graphic, if you know what I mean
My proof copy for Tina and Ellie Take the Case turned out great, and I am thrilled with it. Please sign up to be notified when the kickstarter goes live. There will be special deals available the first 24 hours. Details at the link: www.kickstarter.com/projects/wan...

I work at a public library. People who want to use AI seem to have no trouble doing so. People who don't want to use AI have a harder time. I crowdsourced and then finalized this document "How to disable or avoid intrusive AI" and then gave it a short URL: notoai.org Please pass along if it's useful
For any cartoonists who want to learn the deal about issues that involve cartoonists (like "have other cartoonists have an issue with a digital comics fair?"), you have the option of joining a cartoonist organization and seeing if people have discussed it there.
I just got my proof copy of TINA AND ELLIE TAKE THE CASE, and holy shit it looks great! Please sign up to be notified when the kickstarter goes live. Lots of info and preview pages at the link: www.kickstarter.com/projects/wan...
It's interesting to learn that a word or phrase has been around longer than you think (alternative rock, ATM, download, trucker hat), and to see that a word or phrase that feel like it's been around your whole life has been around EXACTLY your whole life (g-rated).
