This is concerning news to say the least but when Jule's cousin Lulach arrives to let the sisters know that the Red Emperor was requesting one boy from each noble house to report to the Capital things go from a little concerning to a lot concerning.

It's very possible for your audiobooks to be profitable as an indie, but it's also very expensive to produce. If you go through ACX/Amazon exclusivity, you are shooting yourself in the foot. Take into consideration that the spreadsheets below are for 2025 and 2026. I have 4 audiobooks that sell well

From my FB feed. Elizabeth is a *very* popular romantasy author. If these are her numbers, you understand why we little folks don’t do audiobooks. (I did one. It might earn out before my grandchildren die.)

A Facebook post by Elizabeth Hunter Author: “I NEED readers/listeners to understand that this is why indie authors are not producing audio. I absolutely love that listeners can access so many books through their library system for free. And big publishers have the cash flow to carry those pennies earned until the books pay out. Self published authors do not. Four audiobooks borrowed. $2 earned. A single narrator audiobook takes roughly $4000 to produce. You have to do the math. If an author tells you they’re not producing an audiobook for a new release, this is why.” It’s accompanied by a graphic showing $2.08 in royalties for 4 books through Hoopla.
