A cute little Bewick’s wren was up on the snack table looking at the bowl, until I tossed a little mealworm down onto the patio concrete next to the table. One Bewick’s made regular visits this spring, is this the same one?? 5:45pm #birds

Reviewing catches by the #BirdBuddy hummingbird feeder today. Hey, a young Hooded oriole! Not an easy feeder for them, the ports are a little small. Hopefully the youngsters got something for its effort. If not, there are plenty of good feeders nearby. #birds 💛

4:14 and Junior stopped by. I think he snuck up to the snack bowl when I wasn’t looking because he stayed at the clay seed bowl doing beak maintenance and then left. There were only a few large mealworms left in the bowl so somebirdy had some 😉 Those long tail feathers #birds Greater roadrunner

1- a couple young Hooded orioles share feeders with a hummingbird. 2- three Hooded orioles a few minutes later - including an adult male! Yay, still at least one left. I’ll be watching for him tomorrow, very close to migration time for him, many of his buddies are already gone. 🪶

BT (originally BrokenTail) is transitioning into BeautifulTail, I think!! New feathers are growing in! There should be 10 so BT has a ways to go but it’s a start 😄 🪶

One of the young female Hooded orioles is having a big breakfast in our Desert Willow (host plant for a kind of horn worm caterpillar). That caterpillar is almost as big as you are, Missy! Lots of protein for the trip south soon. 🪶🌿 It is noticeably quieter in the yard with most of the orioles gone

The kids are getting all riled up over who gets first dibs on the grape jelly and mealworms in the double bowl feeder. Haven’t seen poppa Hooded oriole yet this morning. The oriole population is definitely dropping, sigh. August is the end of the season for the adult males - double sigh 🪶
