I've only been using the paid search service by @waterfox.net for a week, and I can already tell it's worth every penny. I've had three specific things I needed to find, and Waterfox search got me what I needed within two clicks for each. Highly recommend for de-enshittified search.

Chrome is reaching into users' machines and writing a 4 GB on-device AI model file to disk without asking. It is the weights for Gemini Nano, Google's on-device LLM. Chrome did not ask. This is why I drew a line in the sand. The industry wants to turn the browser into a concierge between you and the web, interpreting and filtering your reality. They call it delegation - I call it a loss of agency. A browser should be a tool you wield, not something that makes decisions for you.
