Det er ufattelig for meg at så mange folk tilsynelatende ikke bare intuitivt forstår det. Men EN av grunnene til alle boliger skal være universelt utformet er fordi, hvem som helst, som bor hvor som helst, kan når som helst, plutselig begyne å ha *behov* for at boligen deres er universelt utformet.

Derimot kan kostnadene reduseres gjennom å lette på byggekravene. Mye av de fordyrende kravene kom da prisene på tre- og byggevarer var lave fra 2009 til 2020, og tilgangen til arbeidskraft høy etter EUs østutvidelse. Nå er varene dyre og arbeidskraften knapp, men reglene er de samme. Må alle leiligheter som bygges, være universelt utformet? Trenger man 30 cm isolasjon i vegg og 40 cm i tak? Ved å senke disse til henholdsvis 20 og 30 cm kan det spares opp mot en million i byggekostnad på en enebolig (ifølge uoffisielle kilder). Om prisen for nybygg er for høy for vanlige folk må reglene endres, ellers er samfunnet til for reglene og ikke omvendt.

We do need to make this sound as scary as possible to cis people - so they give a shit. But when addressing trans people directly, dial down the fear factor - because the impact on the average person will be minimal. They want to scare people into the closet, don’t let them.

We unpick the tech industry’s marketing, hype, & harm; and we argue for safeguarding higher education, critical thinking, expertise, academic freedom, & scientific integrity. 1/n

Abstract: Under the banner of progress, products have been uncritically adopted or even imposed on users — in past centuries with tobacco and combustion engines, and in the 21st with social media. For these collective blunders, we now regret our involvement or apathy as scientists, and society struggles to put the genie back in the bottle. Currently, we are similarly entangled with artificial intelligence (AI) technology. For example, software updates are rolled out seamlessly and non-consensually, Microsoft Office is bundled with chatbots, and we, our students, and our employers have had no say, as it is not considered a valid position to reject AI technologies in our teaching and research. This is why in June 2025, we co-authored an Open Letter calling on our employers to reverse and rethink their stance on uncritically adopting AI technologies. In this position piece, we expound on why universities must take their role seriously toa) counter the technology industry’s marketing, hype, and harm; and to b) safeguard higher education, critical thinking, expertise, academic freedom, and scientific integrity. We include pointers to relevant work to further inform our colleagues.

Microsoft, and big tech more generally, has fucked up so bad that comedy podcast hosts are doing "How To Install Linux" videos. They have sapped the fun and wonder out of technology and permeated it with terrible and unwanted AI "features" chained to you through extractive subscription models.

It seems to me that capitalism so often makes the things that it is our duty and responsibility to say, into things we'd get fired for saying. "No. That is wrong and harmful." Because, the less we agree to prioritize profit above all else, the more our salary becomes a bad investment.
