It can be depressing watching mainstream "Christianity" descent into the moral abyss of faux-christian rightwinglery. So it is wonderful to see a religious leader who actually cares about what Jesus taught. For a change.

Cupich, archbishop of Chicago, on Standing with Immigrants Oct. 21, 2025 My dear brothers and sisters, today I speak to you as your shepherd, but also as a fellow pilgrim who shares the pain of many of our immigrant communities. Families are being torn apart. Children are left in fear, and communities are shaken by immigration raids and detentions. These actions wound the soul of our city. Let me be clear. The Church stands with migrants. We stand with a mother who crosses borders to feed her children. We stand with the father who labors in silence to build a better future. We stand with the young person who dreams of safety and a better future. Our parishes and schools will not turn away those who seek comfort, and we will not be silent when dignity is denied in the enforcement of the law, it is essential that we respect the dignity of every human being. Now I want to say something directly to those immigrants without documents. Most of you have been here for years. You have worked hard. You have raised families. You have contributed to this nation. You have earned our respect. As the Archbishop of Chicago, I will insist that you be treated with dignity. Americans should not forget that we all come from immigrant families. You are our brothers and sisters. We stand with you. God bless you all.

I call this fascism. He is threatening to use blue American cities as training grounds for the military. I do not call it nazism, yet. Nazism went well beyond the authorianism that defines fascism when it descended into such mindless cruelty shown in the holocaust. Call it the fascism that it is.

I just woke up from a long nap, can someone tell me if Trump has already apologized to the nation for falsely blaming the Kirk assassination on the left when—as with both his assassination attempts and 85% of political violence this century per the data—it was a far-right nutjob?

I am far from the first to think this, but Venezuela is the perfect punching bag for a bully-coward president like Trump. Not dangerous like the big boys Russia/China who humiliate him, and easy to make a big show of looking tough by beating up in the playground. We may be be at war within days.

Today we saw Trump place the U.S. firmly on Putin’s side against Ukraine. He will never go against Putin to protect other nations from an attack - he is Putin’s bitch. The U.S. will leave NATO at the first test, Europe needs to prepare to go it alone.

I am immune compromised by multiple myeloma and not having the flu shot could be deadly. Both of my senators betrayed us by voting for this.

It looks like there is a good possibility that the U.S. will not have flu shots for Fall 2025. People will die because Robert F. Kennedy Jr. cannot admit he has been lying about vaccines for two decades. People will die because the Republicans in the Senate are vile, power-drunk cowards.
