We’ve long called for action on the marketing & pricing of infant formula. The UK govt has committed to 6 CMA recommendations (still voluntary) All infant formulas are nutritionally the same, yet profit margins are high (50–75%!) We need action: >> affordable formula all year #BabiesBeforeProfits

I had to pull this quote because it is e v e r y t h i n g. In the video, Hannah tells a 💔 story of having to leave her 5 month-old nursling to pursue higher ed. How she’d cry in the shower as her milk ran down the drain. Breastfeeding experiences are truly universal. #WorldBreastfeedingWeek2025

We say "support," we don't mean just lip service. We mean paid maternity leave, not just 3 months and a guilt trip. We also mean workplaces that have proper nursing rooms, not converted rooms that had no work, that were an afterthought. We mean health workers who encourage and educate, not shame. And we also mean fathers, partners, and families who understand and participate, not spectate. Last but not least, we also mean policies that walk the talk and actually put mothers first. So, it's not just about awareness. We already know that breastfeeding is great. It's about action-about building workspaces, health systems, and communities that don't just encourage breastfeeding, but actually make it possible. To the woman who breastfed for 2 years, and the one who didn't get a chance to start at all. And to that mom who cried in the shower as her milk ran down the drain. To the mom whose mental health was shaken by silent grief— I see you. I hear you. I am you. And today I speak for us—for all the mothers, all the mothers doing their best in systems that often forget us. So this World Breastfeeding Week, let's go beyond slogans. Let's push for real change. The more people who are lactating when a disaster or supply chain interruption hits a community, the more buffered their children are from food insecurity. Breastfeeding = - food security for children of conflict - food sovereignty for indigenous peoples - zero emission food 🤱🏾💞

The emphasis on enhancing continuity of care is rightly identified in the NHS statement. Relationship-based care ensures improvement to outcomes, efficiency to the system & greater satisfaction for both professionals & women: importantly, evidence supporting other models of care is wholly lacking.

Some in the NHS say midwifery postnatal care for 10 days after birth is all that’s needed: not true. ‘Better Births’ policy pledged care for 6 weeks minimum. But a crucial move will be to co-ordinate care from NHS, health visitors & GPs so no sick & desperate mother falls through the lethal gaps.

Agree 100%. It’s a bitter irony that numerical disparities in maternal mortality have recently reduced, only since more white women with higher incomes now die. Once again: look at the postnatal deaths. Authorities pass the buck on this from NHS to HVs to GPs: the Inquiry must solve this problem.
