Now that #Meetup is going all in on dark patterns, with #BendingSpoons having rewritten its mobile app to cram people into extra groups and pitch them unnecessary paid subscriptions, I’m looking to move a 500+ person group off. What do others use for free social group event organizing?

It's election data viz time for the August 2026 primary election, now with a new interactive visualizer! I'd love your feedback on these new maps. In the King County Assessor race, Rob Foxcurran did particularly well in Seattle, while the two nearest runners-up polled well in more rural areas.

Warm urbanist take: downtown Edmonds is super walkable and nice, and they have a train station and a ferry dock. Let’s Edmondsize Ballard.

Finished the #Duolingo #chess course. If you're curious about learning the game, use @chess.com; they'll really tech it to you. Duolingo's course feels entirely AI-generated. It's incomplete. Its main AI opponent taunts you, can't win from winning positions, and its game review option is worthless.

The Tully’s Coffee sign in Pioneer Square, Seattle, that outlasted its cafe by at least a decade, is finally gone. Long live the Kingdome Deli, which has outlived its namesake stadium by a quarter century.
