So, my solarpunk anti-capitalist sister-rivalry queer-heroine debut novel has been pre-reviewed by @publisherswkly.bsky.social. Which makes my heart sing... "Waring's thought-provoking debut ... is sure to linger in readers' minds" went straight to book design for the cover.
Publishers Weekly has released a nice review for THE HUNGER OF THOSE WHO BUILT IT, which is Wendy Waring's literary solarpunk novel coming in September. It's solarpunk but make it darker - think Emily St. John Mandel x Kim Stanley Robinson in a gritty future Paris. www.publishersweekly...

A stanza from a 1971 poem (Diane di Prima, Revolutionary Letters) Tribe an organism, one flesh, breathing joy as the stars breathe destiny down on us, get going, join hands, see to business, thousands of sons will see to it when you fall, you will grow a thousand times in the bellies of your sisters
This really is quite something. In the 15 years @carbonbrief.org have tracked UK media, 2025 was first ever year where more newspaper editorials opposed #climate action than supported it. Meanwhile, the *actual* climate crisis deepens by the month. Go figure.
Despite what petro shills insist, urban sustainability and a growing economy aren't an oxymoron. Giant map reveals thousands of cities worldwide with successful green policies www.nature.com/articles/d41...

Mark Carney's all-in on fossil fuels, & the announcement of the new sovereign wealth fund is clear further escalation of that ecocidal focus. Where private investors are unwilling to take those colossal risks, your PM plans to take them with your money. 🌎🔥Arson isn't in the national interest. 🧵 1/

This week, the Supreme Court finally killed off the Voting Rights Act of 1965. I've spent the past decade studying the VRA and the attacks on it, so I thought I would offer some historical perspective, and where I think we're headed. This will be a long thread; buckle up.
Every time I see someone talk about Claude I think about how they switched from female to male names as soon as they wanted the robots to seem like experts vs personal assistants.
On Twitter I once shared that transport accounts for only 3-6% of food-related emissions, and the vast bulk of food emissions are from land use & ag production, and WHAT (eg beef) matters way more than WHERE. I woke up to hundreds of angry responses from people in the UK who produce or eat meat.
My experience is that with folks of green-ish persuasion in continental europe, this is THE belief that is the hardest to talk them out of. Literally better luck with a pro-nuclear argument than with trying to pitch 'transport is not the dominant driver of food system emissions'
A more meaningful question is: Should we expect the largest climate policy in Australia to be little more than a clearinghouse for bullshit offsets...? You need to learn about the scheme to be able to change it. I have developed a couple of resources to help with that. The first is this guide:

There is a huge shift in climate politics happening RIGHT NOW in Santa Marta, Colombia. Countries are meeting to discuss a treaty to phase out fossil fuels -- the one issue that #UNFCCC has studiously avoided for 30 years. 🧵
The second favourite line: 🔥👵🏻
Two favourite lines from @billmckibben.bsky.social 's great talk this evening: "Humanity has spent 700,000 years setting things on fire. But we don't need to do that any more". And the description of a sign held up at a climate protest by a group of senior citizens: "Fossils against fossil fuels"
