The cities versus rural areas and exurbs thing is so wild. If you live in a city and say that Iola, Kansas is kinda boring you are history’s greatest monster, meanwhile there are whole television networks dedicated to saying that all cities are hellholes fit only for junkies and murderers.

maggie has been put on a whole OTHER prescription food due to persistent GI issues (she has been on a urinary diet; this is a GI diet that’s also appropriate for dogs with urinary issues) and she had such a hard time eating her breakfast yesterday that i’m lamenting the need to slowly transition her

Covid lockdowns demonstrated, in a deeply imperfect way, the possibility of large-scale social solidarity for a higher cause. That is a prime reason why so many powerful people want us to run screaming away from them into the comforting arms of selfish individualist competition.

the crime is fundamentally a woman criticising a man. you can tell because of all the people who think she has some sort of obligation to fluff him because...they both worked on the same topic??? and she didn't agree he was great???

For the record, this Emily Wilson Odyssey review furor is ridiculous, and largely fueled by algorithms designed to work us up over practically nothing. She wrote a very interesting review from her perspective and I personally enjoyed it. Now, it feels like people want her arrested for a crime.

Remember, it's REDUCE REUSE RECYCLE Recycling is great (when it's actually done) but it's not the first or even second consideration in consumption.

One more thing I want to be clear about: Most people are not talking about the trauma of lockdowns. They’re overwhelmingly talking about the trauma of being forced “back to normal” when “normal” had a new level of danger and cruelty.

I study sexual violence and I think people would be surprised by how often people still bring up COVID once they know they’re talking to someone who is willing to hear about trauma.

obviously it’s deeply unfortunate that people don’t take bad behavior in small dogs seriously because they’re small but at least it works in my favor when my dog barks or growls at random people and they just think it’s cute instead of being scared
