Washington's winter was warm and dry enough that we all knew a rough summer would follow, but the footage out of Spokane is still absolutely awful. I hope everyone's safe tonight.

It has not escaped me who is losing multi-million dollar deals for suspected AI use, and who is unlikely to lose a penny for admitted use of it. To some degree it's apples to oranges, but I'd say that matters less in the devil's fruit bowl.

Over on instagram I’ve been sharing posts about influences, research, Easter eggs, etc for the Little Thieves trilogy, more or less the DVD Extras menu, and it just now occurred to me to ask: is there any interest in seeing those here?

It also leaves a lot of us *stuck* in city centers. Property and rents may be cheaper outside of cities, but I'd have to take on a car payment, insurance, gas, parking, maintenance and repairs... is it *that* much cheaper?

Sometimes I think about how few places in the US have infrastructure designed to support car-free living - just some college campuses and a handful of city centers, basically - and what a disservice this is to people who can't safely drive, including everyone under 16 and many of our beloved elders.

While I'm talking about my books, I should also mention I have one out?? With Disney?? NEXT WEEK??? And if you're in the Seattle area, you should swing by my launch event next Tuesday!!

I think I'm just tetchy tonight because broad dismissiveness towards YA in adult SFF has contributed toward driving publisher support to YA-as-easy-reading-for-adults instead of YA-as-books-written-for-teens and it means a lot of my cohort are afraid they'll never sell another YA

TBH this is as silly as worrying that the existence of a novella shelf robs readers of the joy of exposure to a proper doorstopper. For one thing, teens are not known for strict reverence for age categories. For another, adult SFF seldom measures up to the free and plentiful depravity of AO3!

As far as "books for kids" go I do sometimes wonder if the existence of a YA shelf robs young folks of the joys of early unsupervised exposure to the ranting of depraved communists and libertarian sex-weirdos in the SFF section, an important inoculation when it doesn't destroy 3-10 years of yr life
