It has not escaped me who is losing multi-million dollar deals for suspected AI use, and who is unlikely to lose a penny for admitted use of it. To some degree it's apples to oranges, but I'd say that matters less in the devil's fruit bowl.

ROOTBOUND is out today! In this sequel to Disney's TANGLED, rookie princess Rapunzel and thief-turned-suitor Eugene are drawn into a brewing conflict in a mysterious isolationist kingdom, where they must face ties to Eugene's past, and echoes of Rapunzel's. Also: seagulls.

Congratulations the winner of the 2026 Mythopoeic Fantasy Award for Young Adult Literature: K. Ancrum, The Corruption of Hollis Brown (‎HarperCollins, 2025)!

Okay, so on Insta I've been calling this series Little Thieves: Under the Cover. Our first entry, fittingly, is where most books begin: the chapter headers! One of my favorite little details in the books. It's gonna get broken up weird because bsky only allows one GIF per post!

Over on instagram I’ve been sharing posts about influences, research, Easter eggs, etc for the Little Thieves trilogy, more or less the DVD Extras menu, and it just now occurred to me to ask: is there any interest in seeing those here?

ICE and/or police murdered someone this morning in Biddeford, Maine. From the statements I’ve seen from local activists, I *think* the victim was a young Black man. You may already know Black immigrants are the largest non-white immigrant demo in Maine. A protest is already under way.

Witness says Biddeford shooting victim told police ‘I tried to stop’

One resident says he heard the shots and saw as agents pulled the man out of the vehicle.

I think I'm just tetchy tonight because broad dismissiveness towards YA in adult SFF has contributed toward driving publisher support to YA-as-easy-reading-for-adults instead of YA-as-books-written-for-teens and it means a lot of my cohort are afraid they'll never sell another YA

TBH this is as silly as worrying that the existence of a novella shelf robs readers of the joy of exposure to a proper doorstopper. For one thing, teens are not known for strict reverence for age categories. For another, adult SFF seldom measures up to the free and plentiful depravity of AO3!

As far as "books for kids" go I do sometimes wonder if the existence of a YA shelf robs young folks of the joys of early unsupervised exposure to the ranting of depraved communists and libertarian sex-weirdos in the SFF section, an important inoculation when it doesn't destroy 3-10 years of yr life
